The proper functioning of government critically depends on the trust superior officials place in their subordinates,&rdquo; McHenry wrote.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Given your significant role in prosecuting the President, I do not believe that the leadership of the Department can trust you to assist in implementing the President&rsquo;s agenda faithfully,&rdquo; he added.<\/p>\n<p> <script type=\"text\/javascript\"> \t\t\tif ( getCookie( \"ff_subbed\" ) ) { \t\t\t\tdocument.getElementById(\"stnvideo\").remove() \t\t\t} \t\t<\/script> <\/p>\n<p>Smith was appointed in 2022 by now-former Biden administration Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-pam-bondi-turns-tables-dem-senator-pressed-weaponization-doj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Merrick Garland<\/a> to lead investigations into Trump related to his role in allegedly subverting the 2020 election and his alleged mishandling of government documents.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">classified documents case<\/a> was dismissed in July, while the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-exclusive-accurate-list-of-2020-election-fraud-cases-shows-81-cases-total-30-still-active-and-not-one-single-court-has-allowed-evidence-to-be-argued\/\" title=\"BREAKING EXCLUSIVE: Accurate List of 2020 Election Fraud Cases Shows 81 Cases Total, 30 Still Active \u2013 And NOT ONE SINGLE COURT Has Allowed Evidence to be Argued\">election fraud case<\/a> was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/jack-smith-drops-charges-trump-says-circumstances-changed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dismissed<\/a> in November.<\/p>\n<p>Many conservatives accused the Biden administration of engaging in lawfare against a political opponent, especially since Smith was appointed three days after Trump announced his 2024 presidential campaign.<\/p>\n<p>One official in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-urged-continue-pardon-spree-21-peaceful-pro-life-advocates-persecuted-biden-doj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Justice<\/a> Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2025\/01\/27\/justice-department-firings-jack-smith-00200845\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">repeated<\/a> to Politico that the staffers who worked under Smith simply could not be trusted to implement the Trump agenda.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Acting Attorney General James McHenry made this decision because he did not believe these officials could be trusted to faithfully implement the president&rsquo;s agenda because of their significant role in prosecuting the president,&rdquo; the official said.<\/p>\n<p>This seems like a rather common-sense move.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is now the president. He should not be expected to retain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-exhausted-bullying-pam-bondi-adam-schiff-takes-nap-middle-hearing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">employees<\/a> who only a few months ago were working overtime to pin him with criminal penalties.<\/p>\n<p>But the Democrats and their surrogates in the media are sure to raise a fuss.<\/p>\n<p>Norm Eisen, who served on the White House ethics counsel under President Barack Obama, indeed contended to Politico that the terminations were &ldquo;spurious.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The grounds are a hodgepodge of disinformation and distortion of facts and law alike,&rdquo; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The president and his appointee have the power to hire and fire federal employees, but it must be done within the bounds of the rule of law,&rdquo; Eisen continued.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The legal hurdles are particularly steep for career federal employees, many of whom appeared to be included here.
