This complaint \u200bwas submitted in January 2023 to\u200c the Treasury Department&#8217;s\u2064 Financial Crimes enforcement\u2063 Network (FinCEN) by\u2062 a senior \u200bcompliance expert\u200b in the credit card and banking\u2064 industries. The whistleblower claims that the \u2062companies were aware of illegal transactions occurring on OnlyFans as\u200d early as 2021 \u200cbut &#8220;turned a blind eye&#8221; to the issue. <\/p>\n<p>The complaint was\u200d also reported to the Department of\u200c Homeland \u2064Security and the Department of Justice, detailing that anti-trafficking experts and federal agents had previously informed Visa and Mastercard about the illicit use of their cards on OnlyFans. Several accounts on the platform reportedly showed indicators of child pornography or sex trafficking. The whistleblower asserts that because payments to content creators on OnlyFans are made directly via the platform, Visa \u200band Mastercard are \u2062processing \u200bthe proceeds from these illegal transactions, which could violate the Bank Secrecy \u200dAct.<\/p>\n<p>Neither\u2062 Visa nor Mastercard had heard of the\u2062 whistleblower&#8217;s complaint prior to being contacted by Reuters\u200d for comments. submitted a complaint in January 2023 with the Treasury Department&rsquo;s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, also known as FinCEN.<\/p>\n<p>That report was previously undisclosed.<\/p>\n<p>The whistleblower asserted that the two credit card behemoths were aware that users were paying for illegal content on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/onlyfans-ceo-brags-billions-paid-creators-denies-platform-exclusively-sexy-content\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OnlyFans<\/a> since 2021 or earlier.<\/p>\n<p>He accused them of &ldquo;turning a blind eye to flows of illicit revenue.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p> <script type=\"text\/javascript\"> \t\t\tif ( getCookie( \"ff_subbed\" ) ) { \t\t\t\tdocument.getElementById(\"stnvideo\").remove() \t\t\t} \t\t<\/script> <\/p>\n<p>The complaint was also filed with the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice.<\/p>\n<p>The document said that several parties, including anti-trafficking experts, federal agents, and the whistleblower himself, told both Visa and Mastercard that their cards were being used to pay for illegal content on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fans-star-tries-bedding-cashier-gets-shot-gloriously-turns-unashamed-christian\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OnlyFans<\/a> in several phone calls between 2021 and 2022.<\/p>\n<p>One anti-trafficking group found a &ldquo;high volume&rdquo; of accounts on OnlyFans that had &ldquo;common indicators&rdquo; of child pornography or sex trafficking, according to the document.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint asserted that because OnlyFans users directly pay <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/teacher-fired-people-begin-notice-sick-details-onlyfans-account\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pornography<\/a> creators through the platform, Visa and Mastercards are &ldquo;directly handling the proceeds of these illicit transactions.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>That would put them in violation of the Bank Secrecy Act since they &ldquo;willfully failed&rdquo; to introduce ways to stop money laundering through their networks.<\/p>\n<p>Reuters could not &ldquo;determine what action, if any, the agencies took in response to the complaint, which was filed under FinCEN&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">anti-money laundering whistleblower program launched<\/a> in 2021,&rdquo; according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>The whistleblower told Reuters in an interview that Visa and Mastercard had &ldquo;the power to turn off the switch&rdquo; but never discussed the complaint with him.<\/p>\n<p>But both companies told Reuters that they had not heard of the complaint until Reuters reached out to them for comment.<\/p>\n<p>A representative for Visa said that all merchants that are not in alignment with the firm&rsquo;s &ldquo;robust compliance requirements&rdquo; are removed from the network.<\/p>\n<p>The company employs the &ldquo;best-in-class controls to deter, detect and remediate illegal activity,&rdquo; the representative said.<\/p>\n<p>A representative for Mastercard likewise said that the company has &ldquo;strong governance standards through a comprehensive compliance program and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ice-failures-saw-over-1-million-erroneous-unsupported-payments-to-transport-illegal-immigrants-dhs-inspector-general\/\" title=\"ICE failures resulted in over  million in &quot;erroneous, unsupported payments&quot; for transporting illegal immigrants, according to the DHS Inspector General.\">strong internal controls<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The representative explained, &ldquo;If illegal activity is identified, we work with partners to act,&rdquo;
