Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) detailed the need for new legislation he has introduced regarding presidential <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/pardons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">pardons<\/a>, stressing that &ldquo;guardrails&rdquo; need to be placed on these going forward.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>Blumenthal introduced the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blumenthal.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press\/release\/video-blumenthal-introduces-pardon-transparency-and-accountability-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Pardon Transparency and Accountability Act<\/a> after President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Donald Trump<\/a> issued pardons to defendants of the Jan. 6 Capitol protest, as well as former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Joe Biden<\/a> commuting the sentence of <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/biden-clemency-connecticut-adrian-peeler-28fa099588ec3f0d2555e036fda16be3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Adrian Peeler, who was convicted in the killing of a Connecticut mother and her 8-year-old boy<\/a>. Blumenthal, who was the state&rsquo;s attorney general at the time of Peeler&rsquo;s conviction, said he had &ldquo;no explanation&rdquo; why this commutation was issued by Biden, stressing the need for his legislation.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Nobody knows why that decision on Adrian Peeler was made, and many of these pardon decisions really cry out for more accountability and transparency,&rdquo; Blumenthal said on <em>Fox News Sunday with Shannon Bream<\/em>. &ldquo;That&rsquo;s why I have introduced a bill, it&rsquo;s called the Pardon Transparency and Accountability Act that would establish some guardrails and require a justice impact statement.
