Initial reports indicated around 27 dead animals, but further investigations revealed the bodies of at least 53 horses, along with\u200c a \u2064cow\u200c and a dog. Additionally, several other\u200c horses had to be euthanized due to their severe conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The San Joaquin County Sheriff&#8217;s Office initially received \u2064neglect\u2062 reports in \u2063August 2023, but \u200bJohnson allegedly threatened officers when \u200dthey attempted to\u2063 investigate. \u200cEventually, a search\u200c warrant\u200b led to the discovery of bodies and the conditions prompted animal rescue groups to intervene, with Oakdale Equine rescue taking \u2064in 101 animals\u2063 overall. Johnson, who has a history of abuse \u2064charges, was released from jail \u200bthe\u200c same day she was arrested. overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FSJSheriff%2Fposts%2Fpfbid02VmuK93Kc4PRxxcB7JcgJydeWoXWxSHhE3qNAeio4o4X7HvZcKm8QJzHjMvaNo3NAl&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"703\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>KCRA quoted SJSO spokeswoman Rita Long as saying, &ldquo;There was no hope for them unfortunately.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Oakdale Equine Rescue reported on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/oakdaleequinerescue.OER\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">page<\/a> that it had taken in &ldquo;a grand total of 101 animals with a breakdown of 89 mares, yearlings, weanling colt, geldings, 4 stallions, 4 donkeys, 3 llamas and one molly mule.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The post added, &ldquo;With that said, we would like to  photos, which are rather disturbing to give people that are questioning this seizure an idea of why this is taking place.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This has been going on for sometime, this does not happen overnight.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The number of deceased <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/dozens-horses-fall-dead-oklahoma-rodeo-investigation-underway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">horses<\/a>, including a dog and a cow that are visible on the ground not to mention the bones sticking out of the ground of this huge burial [site] is disturbing.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;There are no excuses for this no matter how you spin it.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Oakdale Equine Rescue added thanks &ldquo;to all that have supported our Rescue and the donations that have been coming in&rdquo; since the news of the abuse investigation broke. They said their donation site uses a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=1052846996886775&amp;set=a.230314232473393\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">QR code<\/a> on their page and warned that scammers have set up phony donation sites on GoFundMe and Venmo.<\/p>\n<p>They said they have had hundreds of texts and phone calls regarding adoption of the horses, but said the animals are actually the property of San Joaquin County Animal Control.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lodinews.com\/news\/article_a3215ea0-da02-11ef-b1ee-dff9fc727739.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lodi News<\/a> reported that Johnson, 63, was released from jail the day of her arrest.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities told KCRA the neglect was first reported in August, &ldquo;But when animal services tried to make contact with property owner Jan Johnson, she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/arizona-authorities-hunting-man-allegedly-threatened-kill-trump-ahead-campaign-visit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">threatened<\/a> the officers.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>On Jan. 4, deputies responded to a report of a rooster fight at one of Johnson&rsquo;s properties, according to the TV news outlet. &ldquo;In that case, 30 dead roosters were found along with 65 live roosters.
