De Blasio, who was mayor of New York City during Trump&rsquo;s first term, said in an interview that states and localities can work to resist Trump&rsquo;s deportation plans, arguing it is within their power to &ldquo;govern our own affairs.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;So, for example, if you have a city like New York that says, &lsquo;We&rsquo;re not going to ask documentation status in our schools, hospitals or with our police force&rsquo; talking to people out in the streets, they&rsquo;re not going to ask documentation status, because that&rsquo;s how we actually keep people safe,&rdquo; Adams said on MSNBC. &ldquo;Talk to NYPD leaders, and they&rsquo;ll tell you once you start asking people documentation status, no one&rsquo;s going to talk to you if they happen to have an undocumented status, and that means you can&rsquo;t protect the community.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 100%; max-width: 640px; max-height: 360px; min-width: 320px; min-height: 180px; overflow: hidden;\">\n<div style=\"position: relative; width: 100%; padding-top: 56.25%;\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/share.grabien.com\/share.php?id=2770394&amp;userid=11311&amp;loginid=9421&amp;playercolor=%23000000&amp;playersize=auto&amp;code=6e563868072ed84a9e373e97d14e0c59\" style=\"position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 100%; height: 100%; border: 0px;\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>When asked what Democrats can do regarding the Trump administration&rsquo;s warnings of legal consequences for resisting deportation, de Blasio contended that &ldquo;the court system will decide a lot of this.&rdquo; He also argued that some of Trump&rsquo;s new executive orders are &ldquo;clearly unconstitutional,&rdquo; specifically suggesting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3298097\/courts-consider-halting-trump-birthright-citizenship-order\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Trump could lose on his challenge to end birthright citizenship<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>De Blasio also suggested that support for Trump&rsquo;s deportations could dwindle from the public as time goes on, claiming that voters were frustrated over the &ldquo;disorder&rdquo; of the nation&rsquo;s border security and are currently fully behind deporting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/illegal-immigrants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">illegal immigrants<\/a> who are also criminals. However, this support will be &ldquo;quickly replaced&rdquo; by disapproval and discomfort from the public.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The former mayor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/204680\/ex-new-york-city-mayor-bill-de-blasio-declares-congressional-run\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">announced a congressional run in May 2022<\/a> but ended up dropping out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2022\/jul\/19\/bill-de-blasio-sticks-fork-new-york-congressional-\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">about two months later<\/a>. His run for Congress followed a failed presidential bid in 2020, in which he was ordered in 2023 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/1357964\/bill-de-blasio-ordered-to-repay-new-york-city-funds-used-for-presidential-campaign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">repay $475,000 to New York City<\/a> for funds used in his push for the White House.<\/p>\n<p>Amid Trump&rsquo;s mass deportations, acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3296536\/doj-prosecutors-directed-rein-in-illegal-immigration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">directed U.S. attorneys to investigate state and local jurisdictions<\/a> that fail to enforce immigration laws.
