Hence, January has become known known as &ldquo;Divorce Month&rdquo; in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>This January promises to be no different. In late 2024,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/lifestyle\/divorces-rise-election-lawyers-weigh-080107852.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lawyers<\/a>&nbsp;were already seeing an uptick in the number of calls for divorce consultations. Over the last 50 years, it&rsquo;s been well-settled that our nation&rsquo;s easy&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalaffairs.com\/publications\/detail\/the-evolution-of-divorce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">divorce laws<\/a>&nbsp;have driven up divorce rates and harmed families. As Vice-President-elect J.D.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/jd-vance-suggests-people-in-violent-marriages-shouldnt-get-divorced\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vance<\/a>&nbsp;has observed, under current U.S. divorce law, people &ldquo;shift spouses like they change their underwear.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Could celebrities be throwing fuel on the crisis? Toward the end of 2024, a rash of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/pictures\/celebrity-splits-and-divorces-of-2024-stars-who-broke-up-this-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">articles<\/a>&nbsp;rounded-up the year&rsquo;s celebrity splits as if that might be holiday-worthy reading. According to a new study by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/marriagefoundation.org.uk\/research\/celebrity-divorce-rates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marriage Foundation<\/a>, celebrities have twice the divorce rate as non-celebrities.<\/p>\n<p>The Foundation&rsquo;s Research Director Harry Benson says that in the first year of marriage alone, &ldquo;celebrities are almost six times more likely to divorce than non-celebs.&rdquo; Rock stars have some of the highest divorce rates (60 percent), followed by screen stars (53 percent) and sports stars (42 percent). Benson says wealth can cushion celebrities from &ldquo;the kind of stress and tensions that can lead to family breakdown.&rdquo; Yet they divorce at a breakneck pace anyway.<\/p>\n<p>For the rest of us, arguments about&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.k-state.edu\/media\/newsreleases\/jul13\/predictingdivorce71113.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">money<\/a>&nbsp;are a top predictor of divorce. Yet divorce only exacerbates the financial pressures on families.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/money.usnews.com\/money\/personal-finance\/family-finance\/articles\/2017-08-14\/why-women-should-rethink-their-finances-after-divorce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Women<\/a>&nbsp;and children suffer increased rates of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S1040260821000174\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">poverty<\/a> from divorce. The financial strain of child support payments borne mostly by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfuf.org\/understanding-issues-affecting-fathers-within-the-child-support-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fathers<\/a>&nbsp;has led to a growing father&rsquo;s rights movement calling for reform.<\/p>\n<p>Divorce&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.self.inc\/info\/cost-of-divorce-in-the-us-by-state\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">costs<\/a> set the average couple back by an average of $20,000, rising to $27,000 for families with children. Six-figure lawyer fees are not unheard of for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fncs-carlson-gamestop-saga-shows-system-is-not-the-capitalism-we-were-promised-not-even-close\/\" title=\"FNC&#039;s Carlson: GameStop Saga Shows System Is &#039;Not the Capitalism We Were Promised -- Not Even Close&#039;\">middle-class families<\/a>, either.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the rest of us, who can ill afford the costs of two separate households on the same income, celebrities don&rsquo;t have to truly worry about the financial fallout of a divorce. That doesn&rsquo;t stop their often cavalier attitudes about marriage from exerting outsized influence on the rest of us.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC3960781\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">celebrity worship<\/a>&nbsp;is a well-documented pathology that can result in higher rates of depression, anxiety, and certain addictions. Make that a double whammy for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ifstudies.org\/blog\/do-two-parents-matter-more-than-ever\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">children of divorce<\/a>, who already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dr-rachel-levine-becomes-first-openly-transgender-federal-official-confirmed-by-senate\/\" title=\"Dr. Rachel Levine Becomes First Openly Transgender Federal Official Confirmed By Senate\">suffer higher rates<\/a> of these disorders and so many others.<\/p>\n<p>Entertainers once kept their influence mostly confined to their milieu. In the 20th&nbsp;century, however, stars began appointing themselves experts on everything. Angelina Jolie, who despite her denials was widely credited with breaking up Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston&rsquo;s marriage, dubbed herself a worldwide&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/livekindly.com\/angelina-jolie-humanitarian\/#:~:text=In%202003%2C%20Jolie%20founded%20the,instituted%20a%20landmine%20clearance%20program.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">humanitarian<\/a>. In the new film, &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cosmopolitan.com\/entertainment\/celebs\/a62976238\/maria-callas-netflix-true-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Maria<\/a>,&rdquo; Jolie plays the legendary opera singer Maria Callas<em>.&nbsp;<\/em>Nominated for a Golden Globe, Jolie is expected to be an Oscar contender as well.<\/p>\n<p>Gwyneth Paltrow popularized the term &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/goop.com\/wellness\/relationships\/conscious-uncoupling-2\/?srsltid=AfmBOooHQ_WVkOpGwazyUG1FGunczZqBijGy2eD1UVNjNUPo8oA3CNU_\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">conscious uncoupling<\/a>&rdquo; to promote the popular lie of a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC3223936\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">good divorce<\/a>. Over the Christmas holidays,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.glamour.com\/story\/ariana-grande-ethan-slater-relationship-timeline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reports<\/a>&nbsp;emerged about &ldquo;Wicked&rdquo; actress Ariana Grande&rsquo;s affair with the Munchkin boy, saying his wife and high school sweetheart had been blindsided soon after the birth of their first&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecut.com\/article\/lilly-jay-divorce-essay-therapy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">child<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hugh Jackman&rsquo;s new movie&nbsp;&ldquo;Deadpool &amp; Wolverine&rdquo; is the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/film\/box-office\/deadpool-wolverine-highest-grossing-r-rated-film-history-joker-1236103888\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">highest grossing<\/a>&nbsp;R-rated movie in history. They have a 7-year-old daughter. According to celebrity gossip, the alleged affair between Jackman and Foster had been a well-known &ldquo;secret&rdquo; to theater colleagues, who kept it under wraps because the cheating pair &ldquo;are so nice and great people.&rdquo; The traitors have just gone&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/news\/hugh-jackman-sutton-foster-hold-hands-after-going-public-with-romance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">public<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hollywood includes a few marriage heroes like Michael J.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/michael-j-fox-wife-tracy-pollan-children-kids-family-photos-2024-2#:~:text=The%20%22Back%20to%20the%20Future,%22Still%3A%20A%20Michael%20J.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fox<\/a>, founder of the Michael J. Many continue to be faithful to their marriages, even after divorce.
