The officials claimed that \u200ca report by the *New York Post* regarding the laptop had the characteristics of a Russian disinformation operation.\u2063 This \u200cletter played a\u200c role in limiting the spread of the *New \u2064York Post* story, which was dismissed by then-candidate Joe Biden. (AP Photo\/Evan Vucci)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>As one of his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3293612\/trump-signs-day-one-executive-orders-crowd-celebrating-indoor-inaugural-parade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"many\">many<\/a> executive orders signed Monday evening, Trump revoked the security clearances of the letter&rsquo;s signatories and former Trump national security adviser John Bolton.<\/p>\n<p>The president said federal government policymakers rely on members of the intelligence community to provide analysis that is &ldquo;free from politically motivated engineering to affect political outcomes in the United States&rdquo; and argued that the people who signed the letter undermined that.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The signatories willfully weaponized the gravitas of the Intelligence Community to manipulate the political process and undermine our democratic institutions,&rdquo;&nbsp;Trump said in the executive order.&nbsp;&ldquo;This fabrication of the imprimatur of the Intelligence Community to suppress information essential to the American people during a Presidential election is an egregious breach of trust reminiscent of a third world country.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;And now the faith of Americans in all other patriotic intelligence professionals who are sworn to protect the Nation has been imperiled,&rdquo; the order continued.<\/p>\n<p>Trump also said he was revoking Bolton&rsquo;s clearance because the former adviser published a memoir that &ldquo;was rife with sensitive information drawn from his time in government.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Former U.S. national security adviser John Bolton speaks at the Global Taiwan National Affair Symposium XII on April 29, 2023, in Taipei, Taiwan. (AP Photo\/Chiang Ying-ying)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>&ldquo;The memoir&rsquo;s reckless treatment of sensitive information undermined the ability of future presidents to request and obtain candid advice on matters of national security from their staff,&rdquo; Trump said. &ldquo;Publication also created a grave risk that classified material was publicly exposed.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump revoked any current security clearances the officials may have, though most no longer hold security clearances, and made it a policy that people with security clearances may not &ldquo;use their clearance status to influence U.S. elections&rdquo; or have classified information &ldquo;disclosed in memoirs, especially those published for personal monetary gain.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The president was widely expected to revoke the security clearances of the letter&rsquo;s signatories shortly after returning to power Monday. Attorney Mark Zaid, who represents eight of the 51 signatories, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3292347\/trump-reported-to-suspend-51-ex-intel-officials-security-clearances-on-day-one\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"told\">told<\/a> the<em>&nbsp;Washington Examiner<\/em> before Trump took office that such action would defy precedent.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It would be contrary to decades of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-reported-to-suspend-51-ex-intel-officials-security-clearances-on-day-one-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Trump reported to suspend 51 ex-intel officials\u2019 security clearances on day one - Washington Examiner\">national security norms<\/a> to suspend the security clearances of individuals who did nothing other than, as private citizens, exercise their protected First Amendment rights,&rdquo; Zaid said. &ldquo;Such an action would be unprecedented and undeserved, especially given many of the signatories spent their <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">entire careers serving apolitically<\/a> to protect the American people.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump&rsquo;s Monday executive orders and actions ranged from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/3292389\/trump-sign-10-executive-orders-border-immigration-first-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"border security\">border security<\/a> to reversing former President Joe Biden&rsquo;s various executive orders to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3293179\/trump-announces-mass-clemency-pardons-january-6-defendants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"border security\">clemency<\/a> for people convicted of crimes related to the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.
