Key orders focus on harnessing the nation&#8217;s natural resources, \u200bincluding an &#8220;unleashing American Energy&#8221; directive and declaring a &#8220;National \u2064Energy \u200bEmergency.&#8221; Trump pledged to increase domestic oil and\u2064 gas production, lower energy costs,\u2064 and boost economic security \u200cby utilizing America&#8217;s \u2063energy reserves.<\/p>\n<p>His <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">actions involve encouraging energy exploration<\/a> on federal lands, eliminating the previous administration&#8217;s electric vehicle mandate, and promoting the extraction of critical minerals. Specific attention was given to Alaska, where federal \u2064regulations had stifled energy development. Trump expressed a commitment to reopen areas for oil and \u2062gas\u200d exploration, particularly the\u2063 Arctic National \u200dwildlife Refuge (ANWR), aiming to\u200b transform Alaska into a significant contributor to national\u2064 energy resources. His administration \u2064emphasizes the importance of affordable, reliable \u2064domestic energy as a cornerstone of U.S. economic\u2064 and national security.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>President Donald Trump began the long road to reclaiming energy dominance with a series of executive orders designed to harness the nation&rsquo;s natural resources after <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/17\/good-riddance-deb-haaland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">four years<\/a> of environmental zealotry obstructed U.S. power production.<\/p>\n<p>At least six out of dozens of executive actions delivered by the newly inaugurated president on Monday focused on energy or environmental issues, including an order titled &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/unleashing-american-energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Unleashing American Energy<\/a>&rdquo; and a declaration of a &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/declaring-a-national-energy-emergency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Energy Emergency<\/a>.&rdquo; Trump previewed the emergency order in his afternoon <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/20\/7-highlights-from-trumps-inauguration-address-the-golden-age-of-america-begins-right-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">inauguration speech<\/a> from the Capitol Rotunda, where he characterized the record-level inflation Americans have suffered under the Biden years as a self-inflicted crisis.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We will drill, baby, drill,&rdquo; Trump said, remarking that the nation is host to &ldquo;the largest amount of oil and gas of any country on Earth.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;And we are going to use it,&rdquo; the president added. &ldquo;We will bring prices down, fill our strategic reserves up again right to the top and export American energy all over the world.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump vowed to make the United States a &ldquo;rich nation again&rdquo; through the use of &ldquo;that liquid gold under our feet.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The president&rsquo;s declaration of an energy emergency instructs federal agencies to examine opportunities &ldquo;to facilitate the identification, leasing, siting, production, transportation, refining, and generation of domestic energy resources, including, but not limited to, on Federal lands.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>Trump said the order was warranted to bring domestic power prices down and simultaneously deliver the administration a diplomatic weapon to deal with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-read-the-memo-provided-to-vp-pence-noting-that-he-has-the-opportunity-to-save-the-country\/\" title=\"EXCLUSIVE: Read the Memo Provided to VP Pence Noting that He Has the Opportunity to Save the Country\">hostile foreign actors<\/a>. &ldquo;An affordable and reliable domestic supply of energy is a fundamental requirement for the national and economic security of any nation,&rdquo; the order reads. <\/p>\n<p>The order dedicated to &ldquo;unleashing American energy&rdquo; proclaims the &ldquo;policy of the United States&rdquo; will be &ldquo;to encourage energy exploration and production on Federal lands and waters, including on the Outer Continental Shelf, in order to meet the needs of our citizens and solidify the United States as a global energy leader long into the future,&rdquo; among other items. The order also eliminates President Joe Biden&rsquo;s &ldquo;electric vehicle (EV) mandate&rdquo; and explicitly encourages the production of critical minerals. The previous administration had been <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/18\/more-than-two-dozen-ags-sue-biden-administration-over-ev-mandate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sued<\/a> by state attorneys general last year over the EV mandate, which benefited foreign minerals producers as the Biden Interior Department repeatedly <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/25\/biden-shops-for-critical-minerals-in-canada-while-shutting-down-mining-projects-on-american-soil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shut down<\/a> U.S. mines.<\/p>\n<p>Trump signed an order focused on Alaska in particular, a state where <a href=\"https:\/\/sgp.fas.org\/crs\/misc\/R42346.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">60 percent<\/a> of the land is federally owned and one that&rsquo;s suffered from meddling by Washington bureaucrats. The Biden administration <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/09\/07\/biden-cancels-all-remaining-leases-congress-issued-in-arctic-refuge-further-gutting-american-energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">canceled<\/a> oil and gas leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/17\/good-riddance-deb-haaland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stripped<\/a> roughly 29 million additional acres from any opportunity for new drilling operations. The outgoing president added Alaska&rsquo;s Bering Sea to the list of prohibited space for oil and gas exploration earlier this month with a unilateral ban on development across 625 million acres of U.S. coastline. And while oil and gas producers were shackled from development across the nation&rsquo;s final frontier, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/22\/to-celebrate-earth-day-the-white-house-locks-off-more-alaskan-earth-from-american-use\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mining <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adn.com\/politics\/2021\/07\/15\/biden-ends-large-scale-logging-of-old-growth-timber-in-alaskas-tongass-national-forest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">logging <\/a>industries were similarly restrained from harvesting Alaska&rsquo;s rich natural resources.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;If we were able to do what we wanted to do, we&rsquo;d be one of the richest states by far,&rdquo; Gov. Mike Dunleavy, R-Alaska,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/08\/16\/alaska-governor-blasts-biden-for-devastating-americas-poor-with-bans-on-american-oil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a>&nbsp;The Federalist in August 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Dunleavy celebrated Trump&rsquo;s executive orders to leverage the state&rsquo;s potential on <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GovDunleavy\/status\/1881559052775485916\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">X<\/a> &ldquo;as a true energy warehouse.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>When signing the executive order on Alaska Monday night, Trump was particularly concerned about re-opening ANWR&rsquo;s 1.6-million-acre patch across the state&rsquo;s north coast which had previously held lease sales at the end of his first term. <\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#128680; President Trump signs an Executive Order unleashing Alaska&#8217;s potential as an energy reservoir for the entire nation <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Mo6I9c7kp4\">pic.twitter.com\/Mo6I9c7kp4<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Trump War Room (@TrumpWarRoom) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TrumpWarRoom\/status\/1881508938514137148?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 21, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>&ldquo;What about ANWR?&rdquo; Trump clarified with staff as he signed the order in the Oval Office. &ldquo;We&rsquo;re opening up ANWR.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump also pulled back the Biden administration&rsquo;s aggressive pursuit of offshore wind power with another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/temporary-withdrawal-of-all-areas-on-the-outer-continental-shelf-from-offshore-wind-leasing-and-review-of-the-federal-governments-leasing-and-permitting-practices-for-wind-projects\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">executive order<\/a>. The presidential directive temporarily withdrew leases for turbine farms across the Offshore Continental Shelf (OCS) pending further review. <\/p>\n<p>Ocean turbine farms had been a centerpiece of the previous administration&rsquo;s energy agenda,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/10\/13\/climate\/biden-offshore-wind-farms.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">opening<\/a>&nbsp;nearly the entire U.S. coastline to wind power developers in President Biden&rsquo;s first year. Offshore wind companies, however, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/business\/3080817\/new-jersey-offshore-wind-faces-fierce-criticism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">antagonized<\/a>&nbsp;coastal residents,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/show\/concerns-swirl-over-impact-of-offshore-wind-farms-on-fishing-industry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">concerned fisheries<\/a>, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/03\/09\/greta-thunberg-is-right-wind-turbines-are-the-absolute-worst\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">harmed<\/a>&nbsp;marine life in the process after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/good-riddance-deb-haaland\/\" title=\"Good Riddance, Deb Haaland\">onshore wind operations slaughtered hundreds<\/a> of thousands of birds, including rare species that are federally protected. Low wind speeds in 2023, meanwhile,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/30\/when-the-wind-doesnt-blow-weak-breeze-lowered-u-s-turbine-output-in-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reduced generation<\/a>&nbsp;for the first time in roughly 30 years despite increased capacity, a dip which highlighted the variability of wind-sourced power. <\/p>\n<p>Trump&rsquo;s energy agenda will primarily be executed by the president&rsquo;s deputies running the Department of Energy and the Department of the Interior. Nominees to lead both departments expressed an eagerness in their confirmation hearings last week to unshackle the oil and gas industry from the onslaught of regulations from the Biden administration. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Today, America produces energy cleaner, smarter, and safer than anywhere in the world,&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/16\/doug-burgum-pledges-to-restore-responsible-land-management-to-interior-department\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said <\/a>former North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum. &ldquo;When energy production is restricted in America, it doesn&rsquo;t reduce demand.
