During the signing ceremony,Trump expressed outrage over the\u2063 treatment of these defendants and referred to \u2062his inauguration as\u2062 a\u2063 &#8220;liberation day.&#8221; \u200dhe \u2063also indicated\u2064 that he hoped remaining incarcerated individuals \u2063would be released immediately. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/granting-pardons-and-commutation-of-sentences-for-certain-offenses-relating-to-the-events-at-or-near-the-united-states-capitol-on-january-6-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">executive order<\/a> granted &ldquo;full, complete, and unconditional pardons&rdquo; to roughly 1,500 people and commuted the sentences of another 14. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., whose failures to secure the Capitol as House speaker at the time was the focus of a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/12\/21\/house-republicans-expose-pelosis-culpability-in-jan-6-riot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">congressional report<\/a> in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The President&rsquo;s actions are an outrageous insult to our justice system and the heroes who suffered physical scars and emotional trauma as they protected the Capitol, the Congress and the Constitution,&rdquo; Pelosi <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SpeakerPelosi\/status\/1881511876820898128\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> on X after she skipped Trump&rsquo;s inauguration.<\/p>\n<p>According to the 2022 review of Pelosi&rsquo;s culpability in the turmoil, the House speaker had repeatedly refused to accept reinforcements from the National Guard in the days before the riot. Pelosi was reportedly concerned about the &ldquo;optics&rdquo; of federal troops in the capital after she criticized their deployment amid the riots over George Floyd the prior summer. Then-candidate Biden had <a href=\"https:\/\/nbcmontana.com\/amp\/news\/nation-world\/biden-lauds-2020-blm-riots-as-historic-movement-for-justice-during-monday-speech-mother-emanuel-ame-church-in-charleston-sc-black-lives-matter-george-floyd-summer-of-love-politics-trump-president-white-house-2024-race\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">celebrated<\/a> the riots in 2020 as a &ldquo;historic movement for justice.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The pardons for Jan. 6 defendants came after former President Joe Biden granted wide-ranging pardons for five family members just minutes before relinquishing office. Biden also gave pre-emptive <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/biden-trump-fauci-milley-pardons-january-6-3cba287f89051513fb48d7ae700ae747\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pardons <\/a>to the former members of Pelosi&rsquo;s Select Committee on Jan. 6, retired Gen. Mark Milley, and Dr. Anthony Fauci during his final hours as president. Former Rep. Liz Cheney, who lost her congressional seat in Wyoming over her work as vice chair of the committee, said in a statement with Rep.
