The order\u2064 states that the federal government has violated the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-u-s-senate-acquits-trump-seven-republicans-vote-guilty\/\" title=\"BREAKING: U.S. Senate Acquits Trump; Seven Republicans Vote Guilty\">constitutionally protected speech<\/a> \u200drights of citizens,asserting that government censorship is unacceptable in a free society. <\/p>\n<p>Trump emphasized that the previous administration had suppressed free speech by \u2064exerting pressure on social media platforms to censor\u200d content\u200d that the government disapproved of. The order, titled &#8220;Restoring \u2064Freedom\u2062 of Speech Adn Ending Federal Censorship,&#8221; was presented to a crowd\u2062 at Capital One Arena.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, concerns were raised regarding the\u2064 Department of Homeland Security\u2019s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security \u200bAgency (CISA), which is viewed as\u200c a hub for censorship\u2062 activities. CISA has been accused of collaborating with organizations \u200dto target speech deemed as misinformation during the 2020 election. Robert F. Kennedy \u200bJr.,a key figure \u200cin the current administration,criticized these censorship efforts,highlighting \u2062the involvement of various\u2063 government \u200dagencies in silencing political opposition on social media.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>President Donald Trump ordered an end to &ldquo;federal censorship&rdquo; on his first day in office &mdash; potentially closing the door on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dems-love-censorship-because-they-know-theyd-lose-without-it\/\" title=\"Dems Love Censorship Because They Know They&#039;d Lose Without It\">government-censorship complex<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Under the guise of combatting &lsquo;misinformation,&rsquo; &lsquo;disinformation,&rsquo; and &lsquo;malinformation,&rsquo; the Federal Government infringed on the constitutionally protected speech rights of American citizens,&rdquo; the order reads. &ldquo;Government censorship of speech is intolerable in a free society.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump signed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/restoring-freedom-of-speech-and-ending-federal-censorship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">order<\/a>, Restoring Freedom Of Speech And Ending Federal Censorship, Monday night in front of a crowd at Capital One Arena. This was one of his first actions after returning to office.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">previous administration trampled free speech rights<\/a> by censoring Americans&rsquo; speech on online platforms, often by exerting substantial coercive pressure on third parties, such as social media companies, to moderate, deplatform, or otherwise suppress speech that the Federal Government did not approve,&rdquo; the order reads.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>The Problem<\/h2>\n<p>The federal government has a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/05\/why-cisas-censorship-and-election-interference-work-is-the-most-insidious-attack-on-american-democracy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">censorship hub<\/a> &mdash; the Department of Homeland Security&rsquo;s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). CISA <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/08\/23\/cisa-censors-join-forces-with-private-groups-to-target-so-called-election-misinformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">worked with<\/a> &ldquo;Zuckbucks&rdquo; groups in 2020 and <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/media\/in-the-news\/jordan-tells-cisa-fork-over-docs-about-its-collusion-pennsylvania-target-election\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">targeted<\/a> election speech it deemed &ldquo;mis-, dis-, and malinformation.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump&rsquo;s nominee for secretary of Health and Human Services, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/08\/23\/rfk-jr-calls-out-media-government-censorship-complex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blasted<\/a> the agency for targeting himself and other dissenters.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;President Biden and his White House opened up a <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/EIP_Jira-Ticket-Staff-Report-11-7-23-Clean.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">portal<\/a>, and then <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/Biden-WH-Censorship-Report-final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">invited<\/a> the CIA, the FBI, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/08\/23\/cisa-censors-join-forces-with-private-groups-to-target-so-called-election-misinformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CISA<\/a> &mdash; which is a censorship agency, the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/08\/23\/cisa-censors-join-forces-with-private-groups-to-target-so-called-election-misinformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">center<\/a> of the censorship-industrial complex &mdash; DHS, IRS, and other agencies, to censor me and other political dissidents on social media,&rdquo; Kennedy said while suspending his own presidential campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The State Department also backed the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/global-engagement-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Global Engagement Center<\/a>, which pushed to deplatform conservative publications including The Federalist. So The Federalist, the Daily Wire, and the State of Texas <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/media\/in-the-news\/jordan-tells-cisa-fork-over-docs-about-its-collusion-pennsylvania-target-election\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sued<\/a> the State Department for First Amendment violations. The GEC was defunded in the latest House appropriations bill, but it may soon be <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/16\/democrats-love-censorship-because-they-know-theyd-lose-without-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">resurrected<\/a> under a new name.<\/p>\n<p>Trump himself faced Big Tech censorship when Twitter <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/12\/12\/twitter-employees-found-trump-didnt-violate-policies-then-banned-him-anyway-with-corporate-medias-help\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suspended<\/a> his account following the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot &mdash; even as he was sitting president. It was later found in the Twitter Files that federal agents had <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/testimony-reveals-fbi-employees-who-warned-social-media-companies-about-hack\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pressured<\/a> the company to silence politically inconvenient information, including the Hunter Biden Laptop story. Former President Joe Biden&rsquo;s White House worked with Facebook &mdash; now Meta &mdash; in a similar way to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/13\/zuckerbergs-rebrand-of-facebooks-role-in-biden-censorship-scheme-refuted-in-facebook-files\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">censor<\/a> Covid information.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>A Solution?<\/h2>\n<p>Trump&rsquo;s executive order &mdash; just one in a slough of Inauguration Day <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">measures<\/a> &mdash; seeks to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/restoring-freedom-of-speech-and-ending-federal-censorship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">enforce<\/a> the First Amendment, &ldquo;essential to the success of our Republic.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It sets forth a federal government policy to secure the right to &ldquo;constitutionally protected speech,&rdquo; ban &ldquo;any conduct that would unconstitutionally abridge the free speech of any American citizen,&rdquo; and &ldquo;take appropriate action to correct past misconduct by the Federal Government related to censorship of protected speech.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The order also bans any &ldquo;[f]ederal department, agency, entity, officer, employee, or agent&rdquo; from using &ldquo;any Federal resources in a manner contrary&rdquo; to the above provisions.<\/p>\n<p>It mandates the attorney general &mdash; &ldquo;in consultation with the heads of executive departments and agencies&rdquo; &mdash; to investigate federal activities from the last four years &ldquo;inconsistent with the purposes and policies of this order.&rdquo; The AG must then &ldquo;prepare a report&rdquo; for the president recommending &ldquo;appropriate remedial actions.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear what steps the Trump administration will take, pursuant to this order, to investigate or shut down agencies or <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/08\/23\/cisa-censors-join-forces-with-private-groups-to-target-so-called-election-misinformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">partnerships<\/a> that constitute the government-censorship complex.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Logan Washburn is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lawsuit-clark-county-keeps-commercial-addresses-on-voter-rolls\/\" title=\"Lawsuit: Clark County Keeps Commercial Addresses On Voter Rolls\">staff writer covering election integrity<\/a>.
