Mark Milley, Dr. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/anthony-fauci\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Anthony Fauci\">Anthony Fauci<\/a>, and members of the former House Jan. 6 committee hours before leaving the presidency.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>After President-elect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Donald Trump\">Donald Trump<\/a> won reelection in November, reports began to swirl that Biden may issue pardons to shield people who could face repercussions for their defiance of the president-elect. On Monday, roughly five hours before Trump is sworn in for a second term, Biden issued those pardons.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Our nation relies on dedicated, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-issues-preemptive-pardons-for-fauci-jan-6-committee-members-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Biden issues preemptive pardons for Fauci, Jan. 6 committee members - Washington Examiner\">selfless public servants<\/a> every day. They are the lifeblood of our democracy,&rdquo; Biden wrote in a statement about the pardons. &ldquo;Yet alarmingly, public servants have been subjected to ongoing threats and intimidation for faithfully discharging their duties.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the lawmakers who served on the disbanded House select committee, Biden pardoned the staff of the former committee and the police officers from the Capitol Police Department and the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department who testified before the committee.<\/p>\n<p>The president also said in announcing the pardons that those accepting them should not be viewed as admitting they are guilty of a crime.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The issuance of&nbsp;these&nbsp;pardons&nbsp;should not be mistaken as an acknowledgment that any individual engaged in any wrongdoing, nor should acceptance be misconstrued as an admission&nbsp;of guilt for any offense. Our nation owes these public servants&nbsp;a debt of&nbsp;gratitude for their tireless commitment to our&nbsp;country,&rdquo; Biden said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Trump had frequently targeted members of the former House Jan. 6 committee, including former Rep. Liz Cheney, along with Fauci and Milley, while campaigning last year. Biden did not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senate-democrats-ponder-preemptive-pardons-for-trumps-political-foes-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Senate Democrats ponder preemptive pardons for Trump\u2019s political foes - Washington Examiner\">issue preemptive pardons<\/a> in this batch for former special counsel Jack Smith or other prosecutors who pursue legal cases against Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Biden had been hinting at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/preemptive-pardon-how-bidens-possible-plans-have-precedent-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Preemptive pardon: How Biden&#039;s possible plans have precedent - Washington Examiner\">issuing preemptive pardons<\/a> in the final weeks of his presidency, drawing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3283911\/biden-hints-preemptive-pardons-cheney-fauci-draw-scrutiny\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"scrutiny\">scrutiny<\/a> and debate about the appropriateness of such actions.<\/p>\n<p>Two former members of the House Jan. 6 committee, former Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3278359\/adam-kinzinger-rejects-suggestions-biden-pardon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Adam Kinzinger\">Adam Kinzinger<\/a> and now-Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3261139\/schiff-precedent-set-biden-preemptive-pardons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Adam Schiff\">Adam Schiff<\/a> (D-CA), said they did not want a preemptive pardon.<\/p>\n<p>Milley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/01\/20\/politics\/joe-biden-preemptive-pardons\/?Date=20250120&amp;Profile=CNN&amp;utm_content=1737375752&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"told\">told<\/a> CNN he is &ldquo;deeply grateful&rdquo; for the preemptive pardon and added that he did not want to spend years possibly having to fight legal battles.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;After 43 years of faithful service in uniform to our nation, protecting and defending the Constitution, I do not wish to spend whatever remaining time the Lord grants me fighting those who unjustly might seek retribution for perceived slights,&rdquo;
