This action is aimed at those who signed a controversial letter alleging\u2062 that a damaging story about Hunter\u200d Biden was potentially Russian disinformation, which was published shortly before the 2020 election. The letter included\u200d signatures from notable figures such as former CIA directors John Brennan adn James Clapper. Trump&#8217;s plans are believed to be a response to claims that these officials &#8220;lied&#8221; about Hunter Biden&#8217;s laptop. It is unclear whether all 51 signatories still possess security clearances. Trump said in 2018 that he used his presidential authority to revoke Brennan&rsquo;s, but Brennan later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2018\/08\/28\/trump-security-clearances-john-brennan-799052\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> he was uncertain about whether the revocation ever actually took place. The <em>Washington Examiner <\/em>reached out to the CIA for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The letter became a flashpoint in the 2020 election. The 51 officials alleged in it that a damning story in the <em>New York Post<\/em> published in October that year about the Bidens might have been Russian disinformation, thereby casting doubt on the story.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The arrival on the US political scene of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-discussed-plans-for-a-business-that-would-include-joe-biden-emails-show\/\" title=\"Hunter Biden Discussed Plans For A Business That Would Include Joe Biden, Emails Show\">emails purportedly belonging<\/a> to Vice President Biden&rsquo;s son Hunter, much of it related to his time serving on the Board of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma, has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation,&rdquo; the officials wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>New York Post <\/em>had <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/10\/14\/email-reveals-how-hunter-biden-introduced-ukrainian-biz-man-to-dad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> that Joe Biden allegedly used his vice presidential power to strong-arm Ukraine for Hunter Biden&rsquo;s personal benefit. The outlet based its story off emails buried in a copy of Hunter Biden&rsquo;s hard drive, which it received from former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani. The <em>New York Post<\/em> said a Delaware computer repair shop owner had given Giuliani&rsquo;s representative the hard drive copy.<\/p>\n<p>Hunter Biden had abandoned his laptop and hard drive at the Delaware shop in 2019. Court records revealed that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/photos-surface-showing-joe-hunter-biden-meeting-with-overseas-business-executives-despite-denial\/\" title=\"Photos surface showing Joe, Hunter Biden meeting with overseas business executives despite denial\">shop owner handed<\/a> over the laptop and original hard drive to the FBI later that year in response to a subpoena. An FBI official confirmed during Hunter Biden&rsquo;s trial in Delaware last year that the laptop and hard drive were authentic, though the official did not verify the authenticity of all of the data on the hard drive copies that Giuliani and other Republican operatives disseminated to the<em> New York Post<\/em> and other media.<\/p>\n<p>The letter, coming from officials who once worked in some of the highest national security and intelligence roles in the government, carried significant weight and resulted in then-candidate Joe Biden relying on it to dismiss the&nbsp;<em>New York Post&rsquo;s<\/em>&nbsp;story during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/under-trump-americans-have-seen-their-best-wage-growth-in-40-years\/\" title=\"Under Trump, Americans Have Seen Their Best Wage Growth In 40 Years\">final presidential debate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>House Republicans also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3058708\/ex-intelligence-officials-hunter-biden-laptop-story-active-cia-contractors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">uncovered<\/a> that one of the letter&rsquo;s authors, former Acting CIA Director Mike Morell, had explicitly initiated the letter in part because he wanted to give Joe Biden a &ldquo;talking point&rdquo; for the debate.
