Bush<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/bill-clinton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Bill Clinton<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/barack-obama\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Barack Obama<\/a> won&rsquo;t take part in President-elect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Donald Trump<\/a>&lsquo;s inaugural luncheon on Monday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>A Bush spokesperson confirmed the former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-taking-regeneron-drug-remdesivir-therapy-for-coronavirus-diagnosis-ex-wh-doctor-explains\/\" title=\"Trump taking Regeneron drug, Remdesivir therapy for coronavirus diagnosis: ex-WH doctor explains\">president<\/a> would attend the inauguration earlier on Monday but dismissed the significance of attending the luncheon. <\/p>\n<p>Clinton, former first lady Hillary Clinton, and Obama will also not attend the luncheon after being invited to the event, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/white-house\/obama-clinton-bush-skip-trump-inauguration-lunch-rcna187899\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">report from NBC News<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3284826\/inauguration-day-2025-donald-trump-jd-vance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">INAUGURATION DAY 2025: EVERYTHING TO KNOW AHEAD OF TRUMP TAKING OFFICE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Clintons and Obama previously announced they would attend the inauguration, but former first lady Michelle Obama <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3286017\/michelle-obama-skip-trump-second-inauguration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">will not attend<\/a> the swearing-in ceremony. Her office did not give an explanation for her absence.<\/p>\n<p>Several other high-profile Democrats, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), had announced they would also skip the inauguration festivities.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> reached out to Obama and Clinton offices but did not receive a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Typically, the living former presidents and their spouses are expected to attend the pomp and circus of the inauguration and luncheon. <\/p>\n<p>But in 2021 Trump skipped the inauguration of President Joe Biden and did not extend a preinauguration invite to the White House after refusing to concede he lost the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, Biden invited Trump to the White House in November after the president-elect defeated Vice President Kamala Harris. <\/p>\n<p>In 2016 Obama invited Trump to the White House after he defeated Hillary Clinton for a first presidential term. The Clintons later attended Trump&rsquo;s 2017 inauguration and luncheon, where Trump asked the audience to give the former first lady a standing ovation. <\/p>\n<p>Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3290757\/trump-inauguration-forced-inside-by-dangerously-cold-temperatures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">abruptly announced<\/a> on Friday that the Monday inauguration would be moved inside at the Capitol Rotunda due to a forecast of frigid temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;There is an Arctic blast sweeping the Country. I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/despite-insistence-by-democrat-politicians-and-medical-elites-empirical-evidence-does-not-conclusively-show-that-masks-reduce-the-spread-of-covid\/\" title=\"Despite Insistence by Democrat Politicians and Medical Elites, Empirical Evidence DOES NOT Conclusively Show that Masks Reduce the Spread of COVID\">don&#038;rsquo<\/a>;t want to see people hurt, or injured in any way,&rdquo; Trump wrote in a post to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/social-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Truth Social<\/a> in which he cited former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Ronald-Reagan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ronald Reagan<\/a>&lsquo;s 1985 inauguration also held at the Capitol Rotunda. <\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The move left many lawmakers and thousands of supporters flying into Washington for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/3291419\/congress-left-out-in-cold-over-inauguration-switch-we-dont-know-squat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">inauguration in limbo<\/a>, as tickets for the historic event are no longer valid.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I am so sorry for the last-minute change and any frustration this may cause,&rdquo; Rep.
