effort by Fani Willis to stay on criminal case<\/h1>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"tdb-title-line\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\">\n<div id=\"Brid_1930780\" class=\"tpd-featured-video bridtv\"><\/div>\n<p>President-elect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Donald Trump<\/a> filed a motion Friday opposing Fulton County District Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/fani-willis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Fani Willis<\/a>&rsquo;s request for the Georgia Supreme Court to review a ruling that disqualified her from prosecuting the 2020 election interference case against him.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>The Georgia Court of Appeals ruled in December to remove Willis from the case, citing an &ldquo;appearance of impropriety&rdquo; stemming from her past romantic relationship with Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor she originally hired for the case. (AP Photo\/Evan Vucci)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Trump&rsquo;s legal team Friday outlined several reasons for Willis&rsquo;s disqualification, citing a pattern of alleged misconduct and credibility matters in a 29-page <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/upload-document\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">filing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney Steve Sadow highlighted that Willis engaged in &ldquo;unprofessional&rdquo; and &ldquo;potentially untruthful&rdquo; behavior, particularly regarding her secret relationship with Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor originally involved in the case. The filing also noted her failure to maintain &ldquo;any form of verifiable reconciliation&rdquo; for cash transactions with Wade and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/giulianis-lawyer-accuses-doj-of-corrupt-double-standard-in-executing-warrants-against-him\/\" title=\"Giuliani\u2019s Lawyer Accuses DOJ of \u2018Corrupt Double Standard\u2019 In Executing Warrants Against Him\">alleged campaign finance violations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;President Trump has filed a compelling response in opposition to DA Fani Willis&rsquo; request that the Georgia Supreme Court review the GA Court of Appeals&rsquo; ruling disqualifying Willis,&rdquo; Sadow told the <em>Washington Examiner <\/em>in an emailed statement. &ldquo;The response persuasively argues that discretionary review is legally unwarranted under the particular circumstances of this case.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Willis previously told Georgia&rsquo;s top court that no state court has ever disqualified a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">district attorney based solely<\/a> on an appearance of impropriety without evidence of an actual conflict of interest or prosecutorial misconduct. She also challenged the appeals court&rsquo;s decision to substitute its judgment for that of the trial court.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The opinion managed to overreach both upward and downward, invading the provinces of the trial court and this Court simultaneously,&rdquo; Willis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3281579\/fani-willis-georgia-supreme-court-appeal-reinstated-trump-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">argued<\/a> in her petition filed on Jan. 9.<\/p>\n<p>Although Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee initially allowed Willis to stay on the case provided Wade resigned, the appeals court later overturned that decision.
