Sydney Kamlager-Dove of California suggested race might have been a factor, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/california-congresswoman-surprises-cnn-anchor-take-about-la-fires-lot-conspiracies-out-there\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We need to find out the facts &mdash; a full-scale investigation on what went wrong. I and the CBC, the Congressional Black Caucus, for example, are curious about who decided to sacrifice Altadena, a historically Black community in the L.A. County area,&rdquo; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The allegation led CNN&rsquo;s Sara Sidner to raise a question.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Congresswoman, did you just say &lsquo;sacrifice Altadena&rsquo;? I mean, are you suggesting that this was done somehow on purpose to hurt Altadena? She did, however, call out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-california-insurance-commissioner-says-claims-for-deadly-november-2018-wildfires-top-11-4-billion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">insurance companies<\/a><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;There is no reason why only 2\/5 of the folks who had their houses burned down were insured, and why companies are leaving California in droves, as well as other disaster-prone states,&rdquo; she said.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2023, State Farm said it would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/largest-home-insurer-us-wont-accept-new-applications-home-business-insurance-california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">no longer accept<\/a> new applications for homeowners insurance in California<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;State Farm General Insurance Company made this decision due to historic increases in construction costs outpacing inflation, rapidly growing catastrophe exposure, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/largest-home-insurer-in-us-wont-accept-new-applications-for-home-or-business-insurance-in-california\/\" title=\"Top US Home Insurer Halts New Home\/Business Insurance Applications in California.\">challenging reinsurance market<\/a>,&rdquo; it said in a May 2023 release on its <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.statefarm.com\/state-farm-general-insurance-company-california-new-business-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/05\/28\/business\/state-farm-california-insurance-wildfire\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a> noted at the time that over the past five years leading up to State Farm&rsquo;s announcement, California had had an average of more than 7,000 wildfires a year, burning an average of more than 2 million acres.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/crisis-declared-california-state-farm-announces-72000-policies-cut\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Farm<\/a> was not the first company to decide California was not the place to be. In 2022, American International Group said it was getting out of the California home insurance market, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/05\/28\/1178648989\/state-farm-home-insurance-california-wildfires-inflation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NPR<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Los Angeles fire insurance expert Richard Giller said the state government contributed to insurers&rsquo; &nbsp;decision to leave the state, according to Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;So the insurance companies tried to seek approval for rate increases and the California Department of Insurance and the insurance commissioner decided, you know, they didn&rsquo;t want homeowners to pay more money &hellip; It all came to a head with seven of the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">12 largest insurance companies pulling<\/a> out of the state,&rdquo; he said.<\/p>\n<p>During her Tuesday interview, Kamlager-Dove said there must have been a nefarious intent behind decisions residents have complained about.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;But what we do know is that power was shut off in Altadena.
