The truth is smothered by lies, told for power and for profit,&rdquo; Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/libsoftiktok\/status\/1879703291736850483\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>. &ldquo;We must hold the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-exits-office-promoting-the-censorship-that-got-him-elected\/\" title=\"Biden Exits Office Promoting The Censorship That Got Him Elected\">social platforms accountable<\/a> to protect our children, our families, and our very democracy from the abuse of power.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Apparently Biden &mdash; or likely, his Democrat handlers &mdash; are most concerned about &ldquo;abuse of power&rdquo; coming from average people who contradict the regime&rsquo;s favored narratives online. Meanwhile, they have shown actual enthusiasm for abuses of power, like <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/11\/07\/democrats-must-end-their-lawfare-prosecutions-of-donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">weaponizing<\/a> the Department of Justice, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2023\/10\/29\/us\/illegal-border-crossings-data.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">flooding<\/a> illegals into the nation, and using Biden&rsquo;s beloved &ldquo;fact-checkers&rdquo; to police speech online.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats need censorship because their ideas cannot win on their own merits. From supporting <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/10\/05\/vaccine-mandates-from-private-employers-are-destroying-american-livelihoods\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dictatorial<\/a> Covid mandates to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/03\/05\/illinois-teachers-shamed-for-color-of-their-skin-in-taxpayer-sponsored-antiracist-training\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">racist<\/a> &ldquo;antiracism&rdquo; to transgender <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2019\/02\/12\/lgbt-activists-teaching-judges-yank-kids-parents-wont-transgender\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mutilation<\/a> of children, these positions are untenable on their own. During the Biden presidency, the situation was even worse, as platitudes <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/15\/joe-bidens-signature-achievement-is-his-list-of-broken-promises\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">replaced<\/a> any practical policy, and America&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/16\/the-hur-report-kneecaps-the-biden-campaigns-2024-basement-strategy\/\">ab<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/16\/the-hur-report-kneecaps-the-biden-campaigns-2024-basement-strategy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sentee<\/a> president left White House staffers to execute this weak approach.<\/p>\n<p>November&rsquo;s election proved this. Despite Democrats&rsquo; best efforts using &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/08\/14\/states-file-federal-lawsuit-seeking-to-shut-down-bidenbucks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bidenbucks<\/a>&rdquo; &mdash; or later, &ldquo;KamalaCash&rdquo; &mdash; to co-opt federal agencies as leftist &ldquo;get out the vote&rdquo; machines, they lost the presidential bid by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2024\/11\/05\/us\/elections\/results-president.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">landslide<\/a>. But former President Donald Trump&rsquo;s victory may have been more difficult had leftists maintained their stranglehold on public discourse. The federal government has a massive speech enforcement apparatus, much of which involves its <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/05\/why-cisas-censorship-and-election-interference-work-is-the-most-insidious-attack-on-american-democracy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">censorship hub<\/a> &mdash; the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, under the Department of Homeland Security. CISA <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/08\/23\/cisa-censors-join-forces-with-private-groups-to-target-so-called-election-misinformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">worked with<\/a> &ldquo;Zuckbucks&rdquo; groups in 2020 and targeted election speech it deemed &ldquo;mis-, dis-, and malinformation.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>By 2020, both <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Business\/twitters-fact-checking-labels\/story?id=70903715\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Twitter<\/a> (now X) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/facebook-fact-checks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Facebook<\/a> (now Meta) had adopted &ldquo;fact-checking&rdquo; from supposed experts &mdash; many of whom acted as <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/03\/13\/newsguard-claims-not-to-be-government-funded-but-a-750k-grant-suggests-otherwise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">government-funded<\/a> left-wing <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/fact-checkers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">activists<\/a>. As revealed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/02\/21\/the-twitter-files-reveal-big-techs-unholy-alliance-with-the-feds-exists-to-control-you\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Twitter Files<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/the-facebook-files\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Facebook Files<\/a>, senior federal officials worked with Big Tech corporations to suppress inconvenient content like the Hunter Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/15\/biden-exits-office-promoting-the-big-tech-censorship-that-got-him-elected\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">laptop<\/a> story. While social media censored conservatives, legacy media reliably <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/11\/06\/2024s-biggest-loser-is-the-corporate-media-industrial-complex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">parroted<\/a> Democrat talking points.<\/p>\n<p>For the outlets that refuse to echo regime talking points &mdash; <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/12\/07\/how-i-plan-to-halt-big-governments-covid-tyranny-once-and-for-all\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">decrying<\/a> Covid mandates, covering <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/12\/dei-obsessed-universities-overprice-degrees-and-under-deliver-on-them\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DEI racism<\/a> in universities, and exposing horrific transgender <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/01\/31\/under-biden-proposal-everyone-including-kids-could-more-easily-get-transgender-surgery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">surgeries<\/a> on children &mdash; the government-censorship complex destroyed their reach.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Global Engagement Center, a &ldquo;subagency&rdquo; of the State Department, helped <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/01\/09\/house-republicans-state-department-hiding-its-funding-for-censorship-industrial-complex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">develop<\/a> censorship tools for Big Tech corporations, as The Federalist previously reported. Through this program, the State Department <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/01\/09\/house-republicans-state-department-hiding-its-funding-for-censorship-industrial-complex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">funded<\/a> the &ldquo;Global Disinformation Index&rdquo; &mdash; which targets conservative news sites, including The Federalist, in an effort to defund them. The Federalist, The Daily Wire, and the state of Texas <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/12\/06\/state-of-texas-joins-the-federalist-daily-wire-in-suing-the-federal-censorship-industrial-complex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sued<\/a> in 2023 for First Amendment violations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Losing Control?<\/h2>\n<p>When Elon Musk <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/10\/27\/technology\/elon-musk-twitter-deal-complete.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bought<\/a> Twitter and renamed it X in 2022, he <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/11\/10\/grading-elon-musks-first-year-at-twitter-4-major-wins-but-much-room-for-improvement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">freed<\/a> the platform from the federal information commissars <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/05\/24\/irs-opened-investigation-into-matt-taibbi-the-same-day-he-blew-the-whistle-on-twitter-and-the-feds-censorship-scheme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">censoring<\/a> Americans&rsquo; speech. This struck a blow to the <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/release\/the-cover-up-big-tech-the-swamp-and-mainstream-media-coordinated-to-censor-americans-free-speech-%EF%BF%BC\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">censorship-industrial complex<\/a>. Since then, leftists have <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/media\/in-the-news\/biden-harris-ftc-chair-lina-khan-weaponized-agency-against-elon-musk-house-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">weaponized<\/a> federal agencies like the Federal Trade Commission against Musk.<\/p>\n<p>Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has also apparently defected from the censorship-industrial complex. The billionaire sent <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/01\/18\/mark-zuckerbergs-350-million-in-election-funding-went-to-far-left-activists-not-nonpartisan-outfits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$400 million<\/a> in &ldquo;Zuckbucks&rdquo; through leftist nonprofits to influence local election agencies in 2020, boosting Democrat turnout. But he began <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/tech\/tech-news\/mark-zuckerberg-praises-trumps-response-assassination-attempt-rcna162777\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">changing his tune<\/a> after the first assassination attempt on Trump and more recently rebranded himself as a personality friendly to free speech. While the company <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/10\/meta-refuses-to-answer-reporters-questions-about-claims-its-reducing-censorship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">refused<\/a> to answer The Federalist&rsquo;s questions on the record, Meta did away with its fact-checking program last week, purportedly shifting away from its role as a government enforcer that <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/07\/were-still-waiting-for-facebook-to-atone-for-the-11-times-we-know-of-it-censored-the-federalist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">censored<\/a> The Federalist numerous times. Meta&rsquo;s policy change apparently drew Biden&rsquo;s ire in his farewell address, spurring his comments about fact-checking.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the government-funded Global Engagement Center has faced increasing scrutiny. Congress <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/state-departments-disinformation-office-to-close-after-funding-nixed-in-ndaa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">discontinued<\/a> funding for the GEC beyond this year, so the subagency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/bureaus-offices\/under-secretary-for-public-diplomacy-and-public-affairs\/global-engagement-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">closed its doors on Dec. 23<\/a>. But, as the Washington Examiner reported, the State Department planned in December to reroute more than 50 GEC employees &mdash; and tens of millions of dollars &mdash; to a new group, the &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/investigations\/3274279\/state-department-documents-reveal-secret-plans-censorship-new-hub\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Counter Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference Hub<\/a>.&rdquo; This move could effectively resurrect the GEC.<\/p>\n<p>Biden&rsquo;s feeble farewell address may seem like the dying breath of a Democrat censorship regime, staring into perhaps its greatest threat since its inception &mdash; a second Trump administration.
