These actions \u2063were prompted by the U.S.\u2063 Supreme Court&#8217;s 2023 decision against affirmative action in higher \u200deducation. <\/p>\n<p>Gov. Braun&#8217;s order stipulates that state agencies cannot use funds \u2062or resources for DEI initiatives that <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">offer preferential treatment based<\/a> on race, color,\u200d ethnicity, or national origin. It also prohibits mandated participation in DEI training or the disclosure of personal pronouns in a professional context. Moreover,\u200d the state\u2019s chief equity, inclusion, and opportunity office has been disbanded.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Gov. Morrisey\u2019s order restricts state-funded entities\u2064 from engaging \u2063in DEI activities that provide preferential treatment based on the same criteria. return false;\" title=\"Printer Friendly, PDF &amp; Email\"><span id=\"printfriendly-text2\" class=\"pf-button-text\"><i class=\"mdi mdi-printer\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<p>Indiana and West Virginia&rsquo;s new GOP governors signed executive orders on Tuesday effectively prohibiting the use and funding of neo-Marxist policies throughout their respective governments. <\/p>\n<p>Citing the U.S. Supreme Court&rsquo;s 2023 decision <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/29\/scotus-rules-race-based-college-admissions-violate-the-14th-amendment-ending-affirmative-action\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">barring<\/a> affirmative action in institutions of higher education, Indiana Gov. Mike Braun <a href=\"https:\/\/www.in.gov\/gov\/files\/EO-25-14.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ordered<\/a> that all statewide agencies &ldquo;shall not utilize state funds, property, or resources&rdquo; to support so-called &ldquo;diversity, equity, and inclusion positions, departments, activities, procedures or programs if they grant preferential treatment based one person&rsquo;s particular race, color, ethnicity, or national origin, over that of another person.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-783920845\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>As The Federalist previously&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/12\/07\/negotiated-defense-bill-lets-leftists-keep-using-the-military-to-push-abortion-dei-and-trans-agendas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, DEI is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-air-force-nominee-believes-its-naive-for-service-members-to-doubt-the-militarys-institutional-racism\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s Air Force Nominee Believes It\u2019s \u2018Naive\u2019 For Service Members To Doubt The Military\u2019s \u2018Institutional Racism\u2019\">poisonous left-wing framework<\/a> that dismisses merit and instead discriminates based on characteristics such as skin color and sex. Individuals who qualify for a certain position on merit but don&rsquo;t meet the discriminating entity&rsquo;s goal of being more &ldquo;diverse&rdquo; are often passed over in favor of those who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/florida-republicans-are-crafting-a-legislative-blueprint-other-red-states-should-follow\/\" title=\"Florida Republicans Are Crafting A Legislative Blueprint Other Red States Should Follow\">meet institutionally preferred identitarian standards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Braun&rsquo;s directive prohibits Hoosier State agencies from using funds and resources to mandate individuals to participate in DEI-related trainings, provide DEI-related statements, or &ldquo;disclose their pronouns.&rdquo; All departments are additionally required to &ldquo;initiate a review&rdquo; of all DEI-related &ldquo;positions, departments, activities, procedures or programs&rdquo; to ensure compliance with the aforementioned Supreme Court decision. <\/p>\n<p>The state&rsquo;s chief equity, inclusion, and opportunity office was also eliminated under the order. <\/p>\n<p>Much like Braun&rsquo;s edict, West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.sos.wv.gov\/adlaw\/executivejournal\/readpdf.aspx?DocID=97521\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">order<\/a> similarly bars entities that receive state funds from utilizing monies and resources to subsidize DEI-related positions, activities, and programs that &ldquo;grant preferential treatment based on one person&rsquo;s race, color, sex, ethnicity, or national origin over that of another.&rdquo; These agencies are also prohibited from forcing individuals to make DEI-related statements for purposes of employment, issuing a &ldquo;loyalty oath&rdquo; favoring a particular race or gender, or disclose their pronouns. <\/p>\n<p>Members of Morrisey&rsquo;s cabinet and all department heads were similarly required to initiate a review of all DEI-related positions, activities, and programs under their watch. These officials must then report back to the governor their findings and devise a plan to eliminate all items identified in their search. <\/p>\n<p>Braun and Morrisey&rsquo;s directives cracking down on the pervasiveness of neo-Marxist ideology in state governments were two among several signed by the GOP governors since taking office this month.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.in.gov\/gov\/files\/EO-25-16.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">One<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.in.gov\/gov\/newsroom\/executive-orders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">orders<\/a> signed by Braun mandates that all state employees must return to full-time in-person work by July 1. The measure came in response to actions undertaken by Braun&rsquo;s Republican predecessor during the Covid outbreak that granted state employees greater flexibility to work remotely. <\/p>\n<p>Morrisey also issued a medical-related executive order, which <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.sos.wv.gov\/adlaw\/executivejournal\/readpdf.aspx?DocID=97525\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">authorizes<\/a> religious exemptions for school vaccine mandates. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">      Shawn Fleetwood is a staff writer for The Federalist and a graduate of the University of Mary Washington.
