Adam Schiff of California, which ended with her reminding him that he had been censured by the House of Representatives.<\/p>\n<p>Schiff first questioned Bondi as she testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee whether she would have the independence to say &ldquo;No&rdquo; to soon-to-be President Donald Trump, when necessary.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Let me start with one very specific non-hypothetical. The president has said Jack Smith should go to jail. Will you investigate Jack Smith?&rdquo; he asked.<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden&rsquo;s Attorney General Merrick Garland <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/appointment-special-counsel-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appointed<\/a> Smith as a special counsel in November 2022 to investigate Trump, shortly after the former president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/11\/15\/politics\/trump-2024-presidential-bid\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> he would be seeking re-election.<\/p>\n<p>Smith ended up filing two cases against Trump in 2023, one alleging he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cnns-smerconish-trump-suffering-death-by-a-thousand-cuts-legally-speaking\/\" title=\"CNN&#039;s Smerconish: Trump Suffering &#039;Death by a Thousand Cuts, Legally Speaking&#039;\">mishandled classified documents<\/a> and another claiming he sought to interfere in the 2020 election. Smith <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/jack-smith-drops-charges-trump-says-circumstances-changed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dropped both cases<\/a> after Trump was re-elected and he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2025\/01\/11\/jack-smith-resigns-justice-department-trump-criminal-investigation-00197694\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">resigned<\/a> as special counsel on Friday.<\/p>\n<p> <script type=\"text\/javascript\"> \t\t\tif ( getCookie( \"ff_subbed\" ) ) { \t\t\t\tdocument.getElementById(\"stnvideo\").remove() \t\t\t} \t\t<\/script> <\/p>\n<p>Bondi responded to Schiff, &ldquo;Senator, I haven&rsquo;t seen the file. I haven&rsquo;t seen the investigation. I haven&rsquo;t looked at anything. It would be irresponsible of me to make a commitment regarding anything without looking &hellip; at a file.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tQ01ZA2pJws?si=PXu0d0SWOnfivowL\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Schiff followed up asking, based on the knowledge she presently has, if she believed there was a factual predicate to investigate Smith&rsquo;s conduct as special counsel.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Senator, what I&rsquo;m hearing on the news is horrible. Do I know if he committed a crime? That I have not looked at,&rdquo; Bondi responded.<\/p>\n<p>Schiff later questioned how the nominee would advise Trump regarding his plans to issue <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-promises-major-pardons-reporter-asks-jan-6-prisoners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pardons on his first day<\/a> in office to most of those who have been prosecuted for engaging in the Jan. 6, 2021, protest at the U.S. Capitol.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I&rsquo;m going to look at everything. We&rsquo;ll look at individual cases,&rdquo; Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/donald-trump-says-hell-pardon-jan-6-rioters-day-one?intcmp=tw_fnc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> NBC News host Kristen Welker last month. &ldquo;But I&rsquo;m going to be acting very quickly.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Welker wondered how quickly.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;First day, I&rsquo;m looking first day. These people have been there &mdash; how long is it? Three, four years,&rdquo; Trump answered. &ldquo;They&rsquo;ve been in there for years. I have to look, if somebody was radical, crazy.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/who-are-jan-6-defendants-that-might-receive-clemency-donald-trump-2025-01-06\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reported last week that more than 1,580 have been prosecuted for Jan. 6 offenses, and of those about 170 were charged with using a weapon or injuring a police officer. No guns were fired by protesters, but a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.factcheck.org\/2021\/03\/capitol-protesters-were-armed-with-variety-of-weapons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">few had them<\/a> on the Capitol grounds or in the vicinity, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-claimed-there-was-not-one-gun-jan-6-rioters-capitol-riot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bondi told Schiff on Wednesday, &ldquo;I will look at every case, on a case-by-case basis, and I abhor violence to police officers.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Will you be able to review hundreds of cases on day 1?&rdquo; Schiff queried.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I will look at every file that I am asked to look at,&rdquo; Bondi began to answer, but Schiff cut her off, &ldquo;Of course you won&rsquo;t.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Bondi noted she will have staff to assist her in the effort, presumably flagging cases that need her closer review..<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;You said, &lsquo;Of course you won&rsquo;t.&rsquo; Listen, I&rsquo;m not going to mislead this body, nor you. You were censured by Congress for comments just like this, that are so reckless,&rdquo; she asserted.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Pam Bondi just stood up to Adam Schiff when he tried to ask her misleading questions about pardoning J6 protestors.<\/p>\n<p>Her response left him stunned:<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;You were censured by Congress Senator for comments just like this.&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZucbD0wHTs\">pic.twitter.com\/ZucbD0wHTs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Media Lies (@MediasLies) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MediasLies\/status\/1879601550538187142?\">January 15, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The GOP-controlled House <a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/Votes\/2023283\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">voted to censure<\/a> Schiff in July 2023 for statements he made during Trump&rsquo;s first term, alleging he had evidence that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trumps-survival-is-seen-as-proof-that-thoughts-and-prayers-have-an-impact\/\" title=\"Trump&#039;s survival is seen as proof that &#039;thoughts and prayers&#039; have an impact\">45th president&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s campaign colluded with Russia during the 2016 race.
