During a press conference, DeSantis emphasized \u2064Florida&#8217;s readiness to take\u200d the lead in \u200baddressing the immigration crisis. Ron DeSantis revealed a series of legislative proposals on Wednesday designed to help expedite the incoming Trump administration&rsquo;s planned deportation of illegal aliens in the country.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Florida is ready to lead,&rdquo; DeSantis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/eog\/news\/press\/2025\/governor-ron-desantis-announces-proposals-immigration-special-session\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> during a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GovRonDeSantis\/status\/1879546607848603705\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press conference<\/a> introducing the measures. &ldquo;With President Trump taking office, Florida has a unique opportunity to help facilitate the end to America&rsquo;s immigration crisis.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-930879858\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>According to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/eog\/news\/press\/2025\/governor-ron-desantis-announces-proposals-immigration-special-session\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">office press release<\/a>, the governor&rsquo;s proposed legislation includes provisions establishing &ldquo;a state crime for entering the U.S. illegally and a process for self-deportation,&rdquo; expanding &ldquo;the legal definition of gang-related activities to include more groups of dangerous illegal aliens,&rdquo; and repealing &ldquo;in-state college tuition for illegal immigrant students.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The blueprint also includes a requirement for &ldquo;maximum participation in the 287(g) deportation program, with penalties for non-compliance, including suspension of officials.&rdquo; According to Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE), that initiative <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/identify-and-arrest\/287g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">allows<\/a> federal immigration officials &ldquo;to delegate to state and local law enforcement officers the authority to perform specified immigration officer functions under the agency&rsquo;s direction and oversight.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis&rsquo; proposal further contains provisions that would designate a &ldquo;dedicated officer to oversee coordination with federal authorities and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2023B\/6B\/BillText\/er\/HTML\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Unauthorized Alien Transport Program (UATP)<\/a>&rdquo; and &ldquo;[e]xpand UATP to detain and facilitate the deportation of illegal aliens from the U.S.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Policies mandating &ldquo;voter registration affirmation of U.S. citizenship and Florida residency,&rdquo; increasing penalties against illegal aliens registering and voting in elections, requiring ID verification for &ldquo;foreign remittance transfers,&rdquo; and crafting a &ldquo;rebuttable presumption that illegal aliens are flight risks and deny bail&rdquo; were also outlined by the governor, according to his office. <\/p>\n<p>The measures seemingly build upon legislation signed by DeSantis in recent years to crack down on illegal immigration throughout the Sunshine State. Those bills included provisions <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/15\/desantis-signs-law-increasing-penalties-for-illegal-border-crossers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">enhancing<\/a> penalties for <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">illegal border crossers<\/a> and requirements that employers with 25 or more employees use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-verify.gov\/about-e-verify\/what-is-e-verify\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">E-Verify<\/a> to determine their workers&rsquo; citizenship status, among other changes to state law.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday&rsquo;s press conference comes two days after DeSantis <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GovRonDeSantis\/status\/1878950673766814116\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">called<\/a> for a special session of the Florida Legislature the week of Jan. 27 to mobilize the funding and resources necessary to carry out Trump&rsquo;s nationwide deportation operations. Florida House Speaker Daniel Perez and Senate President Ben Albritton, both Republicans, appeared to rebuff the idea of a special session, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Daniel_PerezFL\/status\/1878933099729547734\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">calling<\/a> it &ldquo;premature&rdquo; in a letter sent to legislators on Monday. <\/p>\n<p>DeSantis clapped back at the legislature&rsquo;s Republican leadership on Wednesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/flvoicenews.com\/desantis-announces-special-session-illegal-immigration-priorities-never-premature-to-do-the-right-thing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suggesting<\/a> that Floridians will hold GOP legislators who fail to get on board &ldquo;accountable.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;You&rsquo;re basically saying after four years of Biden&rsquo;s really destructive immigration and border policies that it&rsquo;s somehow premature for us to act with a new President coming in. Are you kidding me?&rdquo; DeSantis said. <\/p>\n<p>Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/trump-praises-desantis-for-leading-on-his-agenda-urges-other-governors-to-follow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">thanked<\/a> DeSantis for calling a special session in a Truth Social post on Tuesday and expressed hope that &ldquo;other Governors will follow&rdquo; his lead. Tennessee Gov.
