Young is suing CNN over a november 2021 report that falsely accused him\u2062 of taking advantage of Afghans seeking evacuation, which he claims damaged his reputation and career. During the trial, Axelrod had repeatedly labeled Young a &#8220;liar,&#8221; notably regarding\u2063 his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republican-controlled-congress-launches-investigation-into-biden-over-classified-document-scandal\/\" title=\"Republican-Controlled Congress Launches Investigation Into Biden Over Classified Document Scandal\">security clearance status<\/a>, to argue that Young had misrepresented his employment challenges.However,\u2063 it was revealed that Young lost his security clearance in 2022, contradicting Axelrod&#8217;s \u2064claims. return false;\" title=\"Printer Friendly, PDF &amp; Email\"><span id=\"printfriendly-text2\" class=\"pf-button-text\"><i class=\"mdi mdi-printer\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<p>Judge William Henry questioned the credibility of CNN&rsquo;s lead counsel David Axelrod on Wednesday and chastised him for repeatedly referring to U.S. Navy veteran Zachary Young as a &ldquo;liar.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/08\/navy-veteran-suing-cnn-for-defamation-breaks-down-at-trial-ive-just-been-completely-destroyed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Young sued<\/a> CNN after it <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/11\/jake-tappers-lead-in-did-that-editor-takes-the-stand-to-defend-allegedly-defamatory-cnn-report-on-navy-vet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">published a report<\/a> in November of 2021 that allegedly falsely accused Young of exploiting desperate Afghans seeking evacuation from Afghanistan on a &ldquo;black market.&rdquo; A court <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/10\/trial-by-ambush-cnn-defamation-trial-gets-heated-during-third-day-of-hearings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">found<\/a> that Young &ldquo;did not act illegally or criminally.&rdquo; Young testified that he lost work as a result of the allegedly <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/08\/navy-vet-warned-cnn-it-had-false-info-cnn-aired-it-anyway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">defamatory report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1285181477\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Throughout the course of the trial, Axelrod argued that Young had maintained a security clearance <em>after<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/10\/trial-by-ambush-cnn-defamation-trial-gets-heated-during-third-day-of-hearings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNN&rsquo;s report<\/a> and therefore Young must have lied about being able to obtain work in the subsequent months. But Young&rsquo;s counsel informed the court that Young has since learned (after testifying) that he actually lost his security clearance in 2022. <\/p>\n<p>Young&rsquo;s counsel then tried to add an additional witness from Helios Global (which held Young&rsquo;s security clearance prior to 2022) to testify about the status of Young&rsquo;s security clearance. Young&rsquo;s counsel argued that the jury may be under the impression that Young currently holds a security clearance (and is therefore eligible for work) due to CNN&rsquo;s alleged misrepresentations.<\/p>\n<p>Axelrod objected and argued he did not mislead the jury about Young&rsquo;s security clearance status, but Henry slammed Axelrod for the &ldquo;blatant misrepresentation&rdquo; that allegedly equated Young&rsquo;s security clearance with an employment contract, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/cnn-defamation-trial-judge-scolds-cnns-lead-counsel-orders-apology-plaintiff-this-isnt-kindergarten\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a> to Fox News. Henry also lambasted Axelrod&rsquo;s representation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cnn-defamation-trial-gets-heated-during-third-day-of-hearings\/\" title=\"CNN Defamation Trial Gets Heated During Third Day Of Hearings\">security clearance document<\/a>, noting how Axelrod at one point implied the document was a &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/kamala-harris-breaks-down-how-biden-told-her-he-was-dropping-out-but-is-it-really-true\/\" title=\"Kamala Harris Breaks Down How Biden Told Her He Was Dropping Out, But Is It Really True?\">smoking gun&#038;rdquo<\/a>; before later contradicting himself.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Right now, your credibility with me, Mr. Axelrod, is about none,&rdquo; Henry said. <\/p>\n<p>Henry also turned to earlier comments from Axelrod in which he smeared Young as a liar and alleged that Young brought a fraudulent suit. Axelrod alleged that Young &ldquo;lied&rdquo; when he said he was unable to obtain work following the CNN report.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;You called him a liar multiple times there,&rdquo; Henry pointed out, reading from the transcript. Henry returned to his chambers to deliberate what to do next before returning to the bench. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Mr. Axelrod, I don&rsquo;t know how many times in this transcript, I didn&rsquo;t bring the paper back with me, how many times you called Mr. Young a liar,&rdquo; Henry said. &ldquo;But yet, in his deposition, he acknowledged having his security being held by Helios Global, which is exactly what that document is and which was exactly what he testified to.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I think an apology from you is clearly in order to Mr. Young for the number of times in front of this court, and streamed around the world, that you called Mr. Young a liar,&rdquo; Henry said, adding he was &ldquo;concerned with the level of professionalism, or lack thereof,&rdquo; from both parties in the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>Before jurors were brought into the courtroom Henry also upped the fine for personal insults hurled from $100 to $1,000. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">      Brianna Lyman is an elections correspondent at The Federalist.
