That narrow majority, however, hasn&rsquo;t stopped them from trying to jam their extremist abortion agenda through the legislature shortly after it convened.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1862989072\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In a 51 to 48 party-line vote, the same Democrats who&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/253676\/virginia-senate-democrats-kill-bill-to-protect-infants-born-alive-after-failed-abortions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recently killed protections<\/a>&nbsp;for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senate-democrats-defeat-bid-to-protect-abortion-survivors\/\" title=\"Senate Democrats Defeat Bid to Protect Abortion Survivors\">babies born alive<\/a> of botched abortions voted to greenlight an unlimited abortion amendment they hope will make the state ballot in coming years.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed constitutional modification still has to pass the Senate and then be re-approved by both bodies of the General Assembly after the <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Amending_state_constitutions#Virginia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">next<\/a> November election to get a vote from Virginians. Tuesday&rsquo;s action on the amendment, however, signifies the Democrats&rsquo; willingness to sacrifice voters&rsquo; feelings about abortion in favor of the abortion radicalism that has plagued the state for years.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"> <span class=\"iwNOuASvjIEFcVK5trWklYdQe02BPGRf8UZMz1HhXJ9\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">FORMER VA GOV. The infant would be kept comfortable&hellip; Then a discussion would ensue between the physician and the mother.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DXB1SsOmEh\">pic.twitter.com\/DXB1SsOmEh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Trump War Room (@TrumpWarRoom) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TrumpWarRoom\/status\/1833676555534409990?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 11, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/span> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Virginia&rsquo;s abortion restrictions are already some of the loosest in the U.S. The state&rsquo;s prohibition on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mexico-decriminalizes-abortion\/\" title=\"Mexico Decriminalizes Abortion\">ending life<\/a> in the womb beyond 27 weeks <a href=\"https:\/\/law.lis.virginia.gov\/vacode\/18.2-73\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gestation<\/a> unless <a href=\"https:\/\/law.lis.virginia.gov\/vacode\/title18.2\/chapter4\/section18.2-74\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">authorized<\/a> by three physicians does not square away with a majority of Americans who <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/16\/poll-majority-of-americans-still-reject-democrats-unlimited-abortion-agenda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">oppose butchering babies beyond 15 weeks of pregnancy.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/bill-details\/20251\/HJ1\/text\/HJ1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">amendment<\/a> approved on Tuesday goes even further than current statutes by asserting a &ldquo;right to reproductive freedom&rdquo; and pregnancy decision-making that &ldquo;shall not be denied, burdened, or infringed upon, unless justified by a compelling state interest and achieved by the least restrictive means.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/virginiamercury.com\/2024\/11\/13\/va-house-panel-advances-amendments-on-abortion-rights-marriage-equality-and-voting-rights\/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CThis%20amendment%20will%20protect%20Virginians,Planned%20Parenthood%20Advocates%20of%20Virginia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Advocates<\/a> of the amendment <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wric.com\/news\/politics\/capitol-connection\/virginia-democrats-pass-constitutional-amendment-to-enshrine-abortion-rights-in-the-state-constitution-republicans-call-it-extreme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claim<\/a> that it will not stop Virginia from enacting certain parameters on late-term abortions. Their eagerness to break legislative protocol to make third-trimester abortions one of the first votes of 2025 shows just how extreme the Democrat party has become. Their actions are a reminder of the high stakes of Virginia&rsquo;s legislative races this year.
