Employees were told that \u201cviolations of [Deloitte\u2019s] policies could extend to \u2018microaggressions.\u2019\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Consequences for violating policies can range from \u201cverbal counseling\u201d to termination. Other punishments for policy violations include additional mandatory training, letters of reprimand, a negative impact on performance evaluation and\/or disciplinary bonuses, or monetary fines.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to PowerPoint slides obtained by The Daily Wire, the firm claims that \u201cmicroaggressions\u201d can be unintentional acts. Regardless of intent, employees can still be punished.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cRacial microaggressions are brief and commonplace daily verbal, behavioral, or environmental indignities, intentional or not, that communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative racial slights and insults toward people because of their race,\u201d the training reads.&nbsp; \u201cPerpetrators of microaggressions are often unaware that they engage in such communication when they interact with racial\/ethnic minorities.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The training provided scenarios of unacceptable microaggressions. One example included \u201casking your Black male colleague to join the flag football or basketball team.\u201d Asking a black colleague to join a sports team was also considered an example of racial bias.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the company, employees are also racially biased if they are not in favor of affirmative action programs. If a colleague comments that \u201ca person of color was given a role due to their race rather than having earned their role\u201d \u2014 regardless of whether that statement is factually correct \u2014 the firm considers it racial bias.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>One scenario from the training suggested that giving an Asian colleague a gift card to her favorite Asian restaurant may be considered racial bias.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"10\">\n<p><i><span>Your team is trying to determine which restaurant gift card to send Beth (your Asian colleague) for her birthday. Joanne, who is very good friends with Beth and has eaten lunch and dinner with Beth on numerous occasions, suggests that the team send her a gift card from her favorite Japanese restaurant. Is Joanne\u2019s recommendation considered a form of racial bias?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Employees were also told that pushing back against the lived experience of a minority peer is considered \u201cracial gaslighting.\u201d If a minority employee complains about a potentially racially insensitive issue employees are not allowed to use the following phrases:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>\u201cMaybe you misheard them?\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>\u201cCalm down, you\u2019re just being sensitive.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>\u201cIn my opinion, I don\u2019t think they were being racist.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>\u201cI know ___ very well and they are not like that.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>\u201cAll Lives Matter.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>\u201c____ people are racist too.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>\u201cWhy is everything always about race with you?\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>The \u201canti-racist\u201d culture training is part and parcel of Deloitte\u2019s broader campaign to \u201cracialize\u201d employees. Employees have been subjected to similar \u201canti-racist\u201d training and the company has suggested that employees consume controversial resources such as the New York Times\u2019 \u201c1619 Project.\u201d The firm has also sought to intervene in the way its accountants raise their children by providing resources on how to raise \u201crace-conscious\u201d children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Deloitte\u2019s honchos have also condemned the Jan. 6 Capitol riot by connecting it with racism in company-wide emails.
