He led multiple criminal investigations into Trump, making him a visible rival of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">president<\/a>-elect.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on Truth Social, Trump incorrectly said that the DOJ had fired Smith.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3233698\/vivek-ramaswamy-says-federal-agencies-can-be-deleted-can-trump-do-that\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong>VIVEK RAMASWAMY SAYS FEDERAL AGENCIES CAN BE &lsquo;DELETED.&rsquo; CAN TRUMP DO THAT?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Deranged Jack Smith was fired today by the DOJ. He is a disgrace to himself, his family, and his Country. After spending over $100,000,000 on the Witch Hunt against TRUMP, he left town empty handed!&rdquo; Trump wrote.<\/p>\n<p>He went a step further in another post hours later.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Stench of Deranged Jack Smith and his thugs is GONE,&rdquo; Trump said. &ldquo;They were sent packing after spending over $100,000,000, destroying the lives of many people and families, who will never be the same again. Deranged Jack accomplished nothing, except to show what complete losers my political opponents are!!!&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Smith led two of the most high-profile indictments against Trump, investigating his alleged mishandling of classified documents and actions around the Jan. 6, 2021, riot. The investigations were terminated soon after Trump&rsquo;s Nov. 5 victory. <\/p>\n<p>Smith had indicated soon after the investigations&rsquo; dismissals that he would resign before Trump took office.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Merrick-Garland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Merrick Garland<\/a> is looking to release Smith&rsquo;s Jan. 6 report sometime before Trump takes office, but he decided against releasing the report on the investigation into the alleged mishandling of classified documents.
