Significant FISA reforms have been enacted since my time in Congress to address these issues. If confirmed as DNI, I will uphold Americans&rsquo; Fourth Amendment rights while maintaining vital national security tools like Section 702 to ensure the safety and freedom of the American people,&rdquo; Gabbard said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/3249666\/ten-closest-congressional-races-election-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong>THE 10 CONGRESSIONAL RACES IN HISTORY WITH THE SLIMMEST MARGINS OF VICTORY<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gabbard said that the provision is &ldquo;crucial for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fbi-claims-theyre-spying-on-fewer-americans\/\" title=\"FBI Claims They\u2019re Spying on Fewer Americans\">gathering foreign intelligence<\/a> on non-U.S. persons abroad,&rdquo; calling it a &ldquo;unique capability&rdquo; that &ldquo;cannot be replicated and must be safeguarded to protect our nation.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Senators have indicated that Gabbard should indicate she is in favor of the provision ahead of her confirmation hearing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Senate Intelligence Committee Chair Tom Cotton (R-AK) told <em>Punchbowl News<\/em> he supports Gabbard&rsquo;s 702 stance now that it has changed. His support could be a key indicator of how Republican Senate leadership is considering her nomination.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Tulsi Gabbard has assured me in our conversations that she supports Section 702 as recently amended and that she will follow the law and support its reauthorization as DNI,&rdquo; Cotton said.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. James Lankford (R-OK), a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, additionally suggested on a <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/link.punchbowl.news\/click\/38148037.143414\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cud3NqLmNvbS9wb2RjYXN0cy9vcGluaW9uLXBvdG9tYWMtd2F0Y2gvYWxsLXRoaW5ncy13aXRoLWtpbS1zdHJhc3NlbC1pbnNpZGUtdGhlLTExOXRoLWNvbmdyZXNzLXdpdGgtb2tsYWhvbWEtc2VuLWphbWVzLWxhbmtmb3JkL2E5MWU0M2Q3LWEwZDYtNGM4NC05YzIxLTcxYmRlMmM1ZDA2NT9tb2Q9ZTJ0d28\/65b132e7b24a7adac507e583B1e4f45c6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">  podcast<\/a> this week that she should walk back her previous opposition to the 702 program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In December 2020, less than a month before she left Congress, Gabbard introduced legislation in the House that would have repealed the Patriot Act and Section 702.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has also been skeptical of FISA, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2962130\/trump-history-fisa-fight-fbi-spy-powers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">calling<\/a> for Congress to &ldquo;KILL FISA&rdquo; in April of last year.<\/p>\n<p>Gabbard has also faced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/3256033\/tulsi-gabbard-syria-regime-questions-senators\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">questions<\/a> about her 2017 trip to Syria, where she met then-President Bashar al-Assad, a dictator who used chemical warfare against his citizens during the Syrian Civil War. A few months after returning from the trip, Gabbard said she opposed then-President Trump&rsquo;s military strikes in Syria in response to a chemical weapons attack from Assad.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gabbard has defended the trip, claiming it&rsquo;s important to open dialogue with foreign adversaries, but critics believe her commentary echoes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/11\/18\/us\/politics\/tulsi-gabbard-trump-russia.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Russian<\/a> talking points.<\/p>\n<p>If Gabbard is confirmed to her post as Director of National Intelligence, she will oversee all intelligence in the U.S., including information in the CIA.
