But Trump issued a burning indictment of his own.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This has been a weaponization of government &ndash; they call it lawfare &mdash; never happened to any extent like this, but never happened in our country before,&rdquo; Trump said, according to audio from the sentencing. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s an injustice of justice.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-719685773\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Trump called his show trial &mdash; in which he was convicted for labeling payments to a lawyer as <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/10\/supreme-court-denies-trump-bid-to-delay-felony-sentencing-in-hush-money-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">legal expenses<\/a> &mdash; a &ldquo;very <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-juan-merchan-sentences-trump-in-new-york-case\/\" title=\"Judge Juan Merchan Sentences Trump in New York Case\">terrible experience&#038;rdquo<\/a>; for which the statute of limitations had <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/04\/10\/yes-the-statute-of-limitations-has-passed-on-braggs-get-trump-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">passed<\/a> &mdash; for allegedly paying pornographer Stormy Daniels $130,000 to sign a nondisclosure agreement, as The Federalist previously <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/10\/supreme-court-denies-trump-bid-to-delay-felony-sentencing-in-hush-money-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who pursued the case against Trump, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/12\/alvin-bragg-kicks-off-another-frenzied-lawfare-trial-with-weakest-case-against-trump-yet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">campaigned<\/a> on suing the former president &ldquo;more than a hundred times.&rdquo; He got <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/04\/07\/exclusive-house-judiciary-expands-investigation-into-manhattan-da-over-trump-indictment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">assistance<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/manhattanda.org\/district-attorney-bragg-announces-matthew-colangelo-as-new-senior-counsel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Michael Colangelo<\/a> &mdash; who had a history of going after Trump in the Department of Justice and New York Attorney General&rsquo;s Office.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is a case that Alvin Bragg did not want to bring. He thought it was &mdash; from what I read and from what I hear &mdash; inappropriately handled before he got there,&rdquo; Trump said at his sentencing. &ldquo;A gentleman from a law firm came in and acted as a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">district attorney<\/a>, and that gentleman, from what I heard, was criminal or almost criminal, in what he did. It was very inappropriate.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump faced months of lawfare for his accountants &ldquo;calling a legal expense, in the books where everybody could see them, a legal expense,&rdquo; he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;For this, I got indicted. It&rsquo;s incredible actually,&rdquo; Trump said. &ldquo;I&rsquo;m totally innocent, I did nothing wrong.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump said vital evidence from other jurisdictions was not admitted, an inadmissible witness was admitted, he was not allowed &ldquo;lawyer-client privilege or the reliance on counsel,&rdquo; and he was put under a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/10\/17\/hate-trump-all-you-like-the-gag-order-is-still-wrong\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gag order<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I&rsquo;m the first president in history that was under a gag order where I couldn&rsquo;t talk about aspects of the case that are very important,&rdquo; Trump said. &ldquo;I assume I&rsquo;m still under a gag order.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump said leftists pursued him in court to &ldquo;damage my reputation so that I&rsquo;d lose the election,&rdquo; he said. He also said the DOJ was &ldquo;very involved&rdquo; in the case, even pointing out an individual in court.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The DOJ was very much involved in this case, that&rsquo;s because that&rsquo;s the political opponent they&rsquo;re talking about,&rdquo; Trump said. &ldquo;You have a gentleman sitting right there from the DOJ. &hellip; He went around and did what he had to do &mdash; he got them to move on me.
