Chief Justice\u2063 John Roberts and Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined \u2062the court&#8217;s liberal justices in\u2063 the decision. The majority cited\u2063 two reasons: that any evidentiary issues can\u2064 be addressed during the\u200b appeal process and\u2062 that the impact of the sentencing on\u2063 Trump&#8217;s duties is minimal,especially\u200c since the court intends to impose an &#8220;unconditional discharge&#8221; after\u2064 a brief virtual hearing.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Supreme Court denied President-elect Donald Trump&rsquo;s request to delay Friday&rsquo;s sentencing in a New York City hush money case where he was convicted of 34 felonies for illegally labeling payments to a lawyer as legal expenses.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/boston-illegally-rejected-request-to-fly-christian-flag-supreme-court-rules\/\" title=\"Boston Illegally Rejected Request To Fly \u2018Christian Flag,\u2019 Supreme Court Rules\">high court delivered<\/a> its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/orders\/courtorders\/010925zr_2d8f.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ruling<\/a> Thursday night, leaving the president no other avenue to halt his sentencing by Judge Juan Merchan scheduled for Friday morning, just 10 days before Trump reclaims the Oval Office. Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined the court&rsquo;s three leftist judges to deny Trump&rsquo;s final effort to delay the proceedings in Merchan&rsquo;s court.<\/p>\n<p>The justices in the majority gave two reasons for their decision in the brief one-page ruling.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;First, the alleged evidentiary violations at President-Elect Trump&rsquo;s state-court trial can be addressed in the ordinary course on appeal,&rdquo; they wrote. &ldquo;Second, the burden that sentencing will impose on the President-Elect&rsquo;s responsibilities is relatively insubstantial in light of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wind-turbine-debacle-shows-biden-harris-green-new-deal-failure\/\" title=\"Wind Turbine Debacle Shows Biden-Harris Green New Deal Failure\">trial court&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s stated intent to impose a sentence of &lsquo;unconditional discharge&rsquo; after a brief virtual hearing.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump&rsquo;s attorneys had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/supreme-court-denies-trumps-new-york-criminal-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">asked <\/a>the Supreme Court to put a hold on the proceedings until the conclusion of an appeal to the conviction in the New York court system. <\/p>\n<p>Four of the court&rsquo;s conservative justice, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh, said they would have granted Trump&rsquo;s request to delay Friday&rsquo;s sentencing.<\/p>\n<p>Trump was convicted of 34 felonies by a Manhattan jury last year over a $130,000 &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/this-week-in-lawfare-land-bad-news-for-jack-smith-in-fl-and-dc\/\" title=\"This Week In Lawfare Land:\u00a0Bad News For Jack Smith In FL And DC\">hush money&#038;rdquo<\/a>; payment to sex seller Stormy Daniels in 2016. The statute of limitations had already <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/04\/10\/yes-the-statute-of-limitations-has-passed-on-braggs-get-trump-case\/\">passed <\/a>on the crimes, but Manhattan District Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/11\/03\/operation-deplorable-a-whos-who-of-the-get-trump-crusade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alvin Bragg<\/a> had campaign to be the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/supreme-court-gives-cities-more-power-to-ban-homeless-camps-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Supreme Court gives cities more power to ban homeless camps - Washington Examiner\">city&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s top prosecutor on a platform of prosecuting the former and now future president. Bragg re-opened the investigation and received&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/04\/07\/exclusive-house-judiciary-expands-investigation-into-manhattan-da-over-trump-indictment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">federal assistance<\/a>&nbsp;to pursue charges&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/31\/guilty-trump-verdict-will-keep-good-people-from-running-for-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">previously declined<\/a>&nbsp;by the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Southern District of New York&rsquo;s U.S. attorney&rsquo;s office.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/30\/rigged-biden-donor-judge-whose-daughter-raised-millions-to-defeat-trump-oversaw-soviet-show-trial-conviction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Judge Merchan<\/a>, a Democrat donor whose daughter raised millions to defeat Trump, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/03\/new-york-democrat-judge-schedules-trump-sentencing-10-days-before-his-inauguration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">denied <\/a>the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">president-elect&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s request to delay the sentencing last week but signaled no jail time would be ordered.<\/p>\n<p>Trump reacted to the Supreme Court&rsquo;s decision with a <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/113801361784208511\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">post <\/a>on Truth Social and pledged to keep challenging his criminal conviction. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This was nothing other than Weaponization of our Justice System against a Political Opponent. It&rsquo;s called Lawfare, and nothing like this has ever happened in the United States of America, and it should never be allowed to happen again,&rdquo; Trump said. &ldquo;To this day, this highly political and corrupt Judge has put a gag order on me, which takes away my First Amendment right to speak about very important aspects of the case.
