The election ⁤marked the selection of Joseph Aoun, the Army Chief, ⁤as Lebanon’s president after a two-year vacancy. During the vote counting,a member of Parliament⁤ cast ⁢their ballot for Sanders, leading Speaker Nabih Berri to exclaim in surprise. This comedic gesture was part of a broader trend of protest votes, including one member who lamented their homeland’s situation and another who voted for ⁤former President Michel Aoun. Though, Sanders ⁤is ineligible for the position‌ due to citizenship and religious requirements outlined in the Lebanese Constitution.
