This is more expensive than a month ago, when a gallon cost $3.02 and approximately one cent cheaper than a year ago, when regular gas was $3.079 per gallon.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>Gas prices have been trending upward since after Christmas, when the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">national average cost<\/a> for a gallon of regular gas fell to $3.01 in December. Yet, despite the increases, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gas-prices\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gas prices<\/a> have fallen considerably, particularly compared to the spring and early summer of 2024. Less than six months after Biden&rsquo;s inauguration, gas prices soared to over $4 per gallon in June 2021. After rising to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gas-prices-national-average-cost-for-regular-gas-falls-to-3-011-per-gallon-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Gas prices: National average cost for regular gas falls to .011 per gallon - Washington Examiner\">highest national average price<\/a> in the country&rsquo;s history in 2022, gas prices started to decrease.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prices would continue to fluctuate over the next two years. Then, after setting a high for the year in April 2024, the cost of a gallon of gas began to gradually decline starting in May. As of today, Jan. 7, the national average price for a gallon of regular gas is more expensive than any time during Trump&rsquo;s term between Jan. 2017 and Jan. 2020.<\/p>\n<p>While the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-administration-imposes-new-fuel-efficiency-regulations-aiming-for-zero-emissions-future\/\" title=\"Biden Administration Imposes New Fuel Efficiency Regulations, Aiming For \u2018Zero-Emissions Future\u2019\">current national average price<\/a> for regular gas is $3.068, costs vary across the country, depending on the state. Prices range from $2.56 to $4.54 per gallon. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/hawaii\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hawaii<\/a> is the state with the most expensive gas prices in the nation at $4.54 per gallon. Meanwhile, at $2.56 per gallon, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/oklahoma\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oklahoma<\/a> has the cheapest gas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Similar to the rest of the country, the cost of gas for areas in and around Washington, D.C., differ. The one constant among them is that most areas exceed the national average gas cost.<\/p>\n<p>Once the state with the cheapest gas prices in the region, the cost for a gallon of regular gas in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/delaware\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Delaware<\/a> is $3.092 on Tuesday.
