Various prospective jurors expressed \u2064strong negative opinions about CNN, with \u2063one juror admitting an inability to\u200d remain impartial due to a dislike of the media, notably CNN, which he\u2062 referred to \u200das &#8220;fake news.&#8221; At least six other <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">jurors shared similar sentiments<\/a> about \u2062CNN creating \u200cfalse narratives. \u200dAnother juror stated \u200dthat they intentionally\u200d avoid CNN,considering it \u200dequivalent to\u2063 other\u2063 media outlets. Furthermore,one juror \u200bcriticized media outlets for claiming victimhood when called out\u200d for their \u200creporting. A separate juror mentioned that, although they have \u2064watched\u200c Jake Tapper&#8217;s show, it doesn&#8217;t captivate\u2063 them. \u2062Additionally, when asked about\u200c the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, none of the jurors believed it was handled well.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Jury selection concluded on Monday in a Florida courthouse in the defamation trial against CNN.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the best moments from the selection of prospective jurors:<\/p>\n<h2>Prospective Juror 1 Dislikes the Media<\/h2>\n<p>Juror 1 <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NickFondacaro\/status\/1876304558672253199\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told the Bay County Circuit Court<\/a> he could not be impartial because he dislikes the media, &ldquo;especially CNN,&rdquo; according to Media Research Center Associate Editor Nicholas Fondacaro and Fox News&rsquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/briansflood\/status\/1876303714547544101\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Brian Flood<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Juror 1 <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NickFondacaro\/status\/1876326176022737303\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">later<\/a> doubled down on his &ldquo;dislike&rdquo; for the media, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/briansflood\/status\/1876326420147773597\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">saying<\/a> CNN is &ldquo;fake news.&rdquo; At least six other prospective jurors <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/briansflood\/status\/1876364556832026805\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">expressed the belief<\/a> that CNN &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pete-davidson-barely-in-second-season-of-the-kardashians-report\/\" title=\"Pete Davidson Barely In Second Season Of \u2018The Kardashians\u2019: Report\">creates fake news<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Prospective Juror 4 Avoids CNN<\/h2>\n<p>Juror 4 said that &ldquo;they intentionally avoid[] CNN&rdquo; before saying, according to Fondacaro&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NickFondacaro\/status\/1876362562801135832\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reporting<\/a>, that CNN is &ldquo;just as bad as every other media outlet.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Prospective Juror 23 Calls Out &lsquo;Victim&rsquo; Minded Media<\/h2>\n<p>Juror 23 said he was unable to be impartial because he believes &ldquo;media outlets think they can say whatever they want&rdquo; and &ldquo;pretend to be the victim when they&rsquo;re called on it,&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NickFondacaro\/status\/1876310969191915968\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a> to Fondacaro. The juror reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NickFondacaro\/status\/1876326729763237993\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">added<\/a> that &ldquo;almost everything I see on [CNN] &hellip; I see it a different way.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Prospective Juror 27 Doesn&rsquo;t Care for Jake Tapper<\/h2>\n<p>Juror 27 &ldquo;says they have seen Jake Tapper&rsquo;s show but &lsquo;it&rsquo;s not appointment tv,&rsquo;&rdquo; according to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NickFondacaro\/status\/1876340476468474215\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fondacaro<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Jurors <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NickFondacaro\/status\/1876329342906810627\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">were also asked<\/a>, &ldquo;Does anyone think the United States handled the withdrawal from Afghanistan well?&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Not a single juror raised his hand, according to Fondacaro&rsquo;s report.<\/p>\n<p>Fondacaro <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NickFondacaro\/status\/1876392503148236981\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reports<\/a> that Jurors &ldquo;2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 15, 20, 21&rdquo; were ultimately chosen. Two are alternate jurors. <\/p>\n<h2>CNN Gets Sued <\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/12\/10\/cnns-reckless-smear-tactics-could-cost-them-big-after-latest-court-ruling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">case began when CNN<\/a> ran a segment on &ldquo;The Lead with Jake Tapper&rdquo; that, according to U.S. Navy veteran Zachary Young&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.documentcloud.org\/documents\/25247742\/young-complaint.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lawsuit<\/a>, allegedly claimed Young &ldquo;was &lsquo;exploiting&rsquo; &lsquo;desperate Afghans&rsquo; by offering evacuations from Afghanistan on a &lsquo;black market&rsquo;&rdquo; following the disastrous 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal. Young argues he used his &ldquo;unique skillset and relationships to assist <em>U.S. corporations and charities <\/em>that wanted to safely and swiftly extract certain persons from Afghanistan.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Young also argues that &ldquo;everything he did was legal.&rdquo; A court also agreed that Young &ldquo;did not do anything criminal or illegal,&rdquo; according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/u-s-navy-veteran-suing-cnn-lands-key-legal-victories-ahead-high-stakes-defamation-trial\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Judge William Henry found CNN had &ldquo;no evidence that Young did anything criminal or illegal&rdquo; yet went forward with the &ldquo;black market&rdquo; accusation and that CNN &mdash; despite claiming to have done &ldquo;three weeks of newsgathering&rdquo; &mdash; had no facts to back up its claim. Henry further found that CNN used Young as a scapegoat to peddle a particular narrative, pointing out that CNN&rsquo;s Alex Marquardt pitched the story prior to talking to Young. According to Henry, Marquardt used words to describe Young&rsquo;s operations that were &ldquo;explosive,&rdquo; such as &ldquo;price gouging,&rdquo; &ldquo;extortion,&rdquo; &ldquo;shadowy black market&rdquo; and &ldquo;fraud,&rdquo; according to Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Then, fortuitously, a door was opened to obtain information for the piece when Young reached out to [CNN Reporter Katie Bo] Lillis,&rdquo; Henry wrote, according to Fox News. &ldquo;Once Young stopped cooperating with the investigative reporters, Marquardt found his &lsquo;fall guy&rsquo; &mdash; Young.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Young is seeking punitive damages &mdash; which CNN tried to avoid. Under Florida law, a publication seeking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cnns-smear-tactics-could-cost-them-after-latest-court-ruling\/\" title=\"CNN&#039;s Smear Tactics Could Cost Them After Latest Court Ruling\">avoid punitive damages<\/a> must issue a &ldquo;full and fair correction, apology or retraction.&rdquo; Tapper issued a statement on March 25, 2022, saying, in part, that the chyron used during the story referencing a &ldquo;black market&rdquo; was used &ldquo;in error&rdquo; and that CNN &ldquo;didn&rsquo;t mean to suggest that Mr. Young participated in the black market,&rdquo; Fox News contributor Jonathan Turley <a href=\"https:\/\/jonathanturley.org\/2024\/12\/09\/jake-tapper-and-cnn-lose-major-challenges-in-defamation-case-by-navy-veteran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>. The court, however, found &ldquo;the retraction\/correction was not made during the other television shows in which the Segment aired.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;No retraction, correction or apology was posted on any online article or with any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-here-are-the-10-worst-colleges-for-free-speech\/\" title=\"Report: Here Are The 10 Worst Colleges For Free Speech\">social media posting<\/a>,&rdquo; the court reportedly ruled.<\/p>\n<p>The trial is set to begin this week. <\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Brianna Lyman is an elections correspondent at The Federalist.
