(AP Photo\/Jacquelyn Martin, File)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&ldquo;The defendant willfully violated an unambiguous order of the court,&rdquo; Liman&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/01\/06\/us-news\/rudy-giuliani-held-in-contempt-of-court-after-148m-georgia-election-worker-defamation-verdict\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>, reading his ruling from the bench. It is not immediately clear how the court will apply any sort of punishment to the former mayor of New York City, who also served as the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York.<\/p>\n<p>Freeman and Moss sued Giuliani in 2021, accusing him of defaming them by falsely claiming they helped rig the 2020 presidential election for then-candidate Joe Biden. Giuliani made repeated false claims that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/minneapolis-to-fork-over-27m-to-george-floyds-family-city-reached-record-breaking-settlement-in-civil-case-amid-chauvin-jury-selection\/\" title=\"Minneapolis to fork over M to George Floyd\u2019s family, city reached record breaking settlement in civil case amid Chauvin jury selection\">video footage showed<\/a> them counting fraudulent ballots in Atlanta.<\/p>\n<p>The contempt ruling marks another setback for Giuliani, 80, who has <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">faced multiple legal challenges<\/a>. In July, Giuliani admitted he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/amber-heard-tells-jurors-people-want-to-kill-my-baby-in-the-microwave\/\" title=\"Amber Heard Tells Jurors: \u201cPeople Want to Kill My Baby in the Microwave\u201d\">made defamatory statements<\/a> about the workers. A judge later held him liable for defamation for failing to produce electronic records. A jury awarded Freeman and Moss $148 million in damages.<\/p>\n<p>During testimony, Giuliani admitted to withholding some requested information but contended the demands made of him were overly broad or part of a &ldquo;trap&rdquo; by opposing lawyers, according to the <em>Associated Press<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>He also cited difficulties complying due to other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/weve-identified-450000-ballots-that-miraculously-only-have-a-vote-for-joe-biden-sidney-powell-drops-a-bomb-on-sunday-morning-futures-video\/\" title=\"&quot;We&#039;ve Identified 450,000 Ballots that Miraculously ONLY have a Vote for Joe Biden&quot; - Sidney Powell Drops a BOMB on Sunday Morning Futures (Video)\">legal battles<\/a>. His new lawyer, Joseph Cammarata, argued Giuliani made substantial efforts to comply toward the end of Monday&rsquo;s hearing.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I respectfully submit to the court to not hold the defendant in contempt, to sanction the defendant for any lack of production, of discovery responses, because documents were produced, interrogatories were answered, and dozens of items in response the documents were turned over to plaintiff,&rdquo; Cammarata said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">FILE &ndash; Former Mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani speaks during a news conference outside the federal courthouse in Washington, Dec. 15, 2023.
