The yet-to-be-built statue will recognize the efforts of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/marc-lamont-hill-says-that-black-lives-matter-explicitly-looking-to-dismantle-israel-and-embrace-bds-movement\/\" title=\"Marc Lamont Hill Says That Black Lives Matter \u2018Explicitly\u2019 Looking To \u2018Dismantle\u2019 Israel and \u2018Embrace\u2019 BDS Movement\">national movement<\/a> to ensure <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">women<\/a> the right to vote, culminating with the ratification of the 19th Amendment, and those whose work helped make it possible.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>The White House made the announcement in a press release on Jan. 5.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Yesterday, I was proud to sign into law the Women&rsquo;s Suffrage National Monument Location Act,&nbsp;authorizing the placement of a monument honoring the women&rsquo;s suffrage movement on the National Mall,&rdquo; Biden <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2025\/01\/05\/statement-from-president-joe-biden-on-the-womens-suffrage-national-monument-location-act\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>. &ldquo;In addition to commemorating the ratification of the 19th Amendment, the Women&rsquo;s Suffrage National Monument will recognize the generations of women who fought to ensure an equal voice for women in our democracy and honor the leaders who fought for the enfranchisement of all women long after the 19th Amendment was ratified.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The women&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">national suffrage movement<\/a> is traditionally recognized as originating with the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848. However, other historical accounts cite efforts preceding this summit as part of the movement to ensure women&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/voting-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">voting rights<\/a> in the United States. This included many forms of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/articles\/the-internationalist-history-of-the-us-suffrage-movement.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">political activism<\/a>, including writing articles for news publications, lectures, marches, and engaging in civil disobedience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After decades of political pressure, an amendment to ensure women the right to vote was initially introduced in Congress in 1878 but repeatedly failed to advance. Nine states eventually passed legislation that granted women the right to vote by 1912. However, it would take until Aug. 18, 1920, for the country to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/milestone-documents\/19th-amendment\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ratify<\/a> the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which granted women throughout the country the right to vote.<\/p>\n<p>The effort to build a monument for the women&rsquo;s suffrage movement originated in Dec. 2020, when Congress <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.womensmonument.org\/about\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">authorized<\/a> the Women&rsquo;s Suffrage National Monument Foundation to &ldquo;establish a commemorative work on federal land in Washington, D.C. to honor the pioneers of the early American movement for women&rsquo;s equality.&rdquo;
