The taxes themselves will go toward repairing New York City&rsquo;s subway system, and New York officials hope the program will reduce rush hour traffic for commuters by funneling some motorists toward public transportation options.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3220465\/what-trump-promised-day-one-white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong>WHAT TRUMP HAS PROMISED TO DO ON DAY 1 IN THE OVAL OFFICE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which is overseeing the program, implemented the new tolls on Sunday morning for a test run ahead of Monday morning rush hour. Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Kathy-Hochul\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Kathy Hochul<\/a> (D-NY) delayed the program&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nasas-unmanned-moon-launch-halted-after-fuel-leak\/\" title=\"NASA\u2019s Unmanned Moon Launch Halted After Fuel Leak\">originally scheduled launch<\/a> this past summer, citing economic concerns for New Yorkers, though critics said she did it due to political pressure ahead of the November election.<\/p>\n<p>A number of lawmakers in New Jersey had sought to block the program&rsquo;s launch.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ) claimed Saturday that the toll is a blatant attempt to &ldquo;fund the MTA on the backs of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/New-Jersey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">New Jersey<\/a> commuters.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This new tax will raise costs for New Jerseyans, while also worsening traffic and increasing pollution in New Jersey as commuters go out of their way to seek more affordable routes into New York,&rdquo; she <a href=\"https:\/\/sherrill.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/sherrill-blasts-implementation-of-new-york-s-congestion-pricing-tax\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I refuse to sit back as New York uses New Jersey&rsquo;s workforce as a meal ticket for the MTA,&rdquo; Sherrill continued. &ldquo;I will continue to fight to move businesses to the Garden State, to expand office sharing sites, and to make it easier for New Jerseyans to work remotely.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">My full statement regarding New York&rsquo;s congestion pricing scheme set to take effect tomorrow: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/TIuVQINE1D\">pic.twitter.com\/TIuVQINE1D<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Rep.
