On Dec. 27, the FDA notified consumers that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/recall-walmart-produce-now-covers-20-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Braga Fresh<\/a> was recalling 12oz bags of Marketside Broccoli Florets with a &ldquo;use by&rdquo; date of Dec. 10, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/safety\/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts\/braga-fresh-issues-voluntary-and-precautionary-advisory-due-possible-health-risk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">alert<\/a> noted that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/massive-recall-cheeseburgers-underway-customers-warned-not-consume-burgers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recall<\/a> followed &ldquo;random sampling by Texas Health &amp; Human Services from a Texas store location where one of multiple samples yielded a positive test result.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The recall covered Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.<\/p>\n<p>According to the federal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/listeria\/about\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a>, listeria is the third leading cause of death due to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/9-dead-many-sickened-contaminated-deli-meat-americans-urged-check-fridges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">foodborne illness<\/a>&nbsp;in the United States. That&rsquo;s number one. Consumers want ready-to-eat food, so of course, they&rsquo;re more processed as a result,&rdquo; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We have better tests. So it used to be we might not have been aware or known what made you sick. Now we can actually test, detect and tell you what made you sick,&rdquo; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The website <a href=\"https:\/\/crisis24.garda.com\/insights-intelligence\/insights\/articles\/listeria-a-product-recall-risk-in-food-industry-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Crisis 24<\/a> noted that &ldquo;the threat posed by Listeria associated with ready-to-eat (RTE) foods is well known to the industry.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;While the regulatory agencies have guidance in place to reduce the risk of Listeria contamination and resulting human illness, obviously there are too many instances where companies and possibly the regulatory guidance have failed,&rdquo; it reported.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It is well known that modern food production environments, often, wet, cold, and with many places that can harbor Listeria monocytogenese, represent a significant risk to post processing contamination,&rdquo; the site reported.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Often food processing facilities were originally constructed for other purposes or without &lsquo;modern&rsquo; considerations for hygienic design.
