German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock and French foreign minister Jean-No&euml;l Barrot made the trip, the first significant diplomatic visit from the West since the uprising subsided.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3259853\/business-union-divide-tough-straddle-trump-second-term\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong>BUSINESS-UNION DIVIDE A &lsquo;TOUGH STRADDLE&rsquo; FOR TRUMP AHEAD OF SECOND TERM<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We are traveling to Damascus today to offer our support, but also with clear expectations of the new rulers,&rdquo; Baerbock said in a statement before the meeting. &ldquo;A new beginning can only happen if all Syrians, no matter their ethnicity and religion, are given a place in the political process.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>There&rsquo;s concern that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham won&rsquo;t be able to govern effectively due to its terrorist organization status and past ties to al-Qaeda. The group has espoused conservative Islamic beliefs in the past, forcing women and girls to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">follow strict dress codes<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscirf.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-11\/2022%20Factsheet%20-%20HTS-Syria.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">persecuting<\/a> religious minorities.<\/p>\n<p>But al-Shara is attempting to project a moderate image as he takes power in Syria. Minister of education, Nadhir Al-Qadri, refuted recent allegations that the country&rsquo;s education curriculum was set to become more conservative.
