But even when investigations are allowed, the prevailing opinion is that they should be exercised with the utmost restraint,&rdquo; the lawyer continued.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities have previously affirmed they will follow through with an arrest warrant if granted.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;If the situation allows, we will attempt to make an emergency arrest or an arrest based on a court warrant,&rdquo; Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials Chief Oh Dong-woon told the parliament last week.<\/p>\n<p>President Yoon declared martial law on Dec. 4, claiming it was necessary to combat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/north-korea\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">North Korean<\/a> influence in the opposition party and wrangle malicious political actors &ldquo;paralyzing the functions of the state.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>He rolled that decree back just hours after implementation following an emergency meeting in which the parliament voted to end the emergency.<\/p>\n<p>The National Assembly voted to impeach President Yoon on Dec. 14 after days of public outrage. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He agreed to step aside until a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/flaw-and-order-jack-smith-election-case-hangs-on-by-a-thread\/\" title=\"In Crisis: Jack Smith&#039;s Election Case on Thin Ice\">high court decides<\/a> whether he will be removed from office or reinstated.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/3270791\/south-korea-nears-impeachment-acting-leader-ousting-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Prime Minister Han Duck-soo<\/a> ascended as acting president but was impeached after just 13 days.
