on Friday, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/scripts\/ires\/index.cfm?Product=211343\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">data<\/a> from the agency.<\/p>\n<p>The alert covered 10,800 24-count units of eggs, which is nearly 260,000 eggs.<\/p>\n<p> <script type=\"text\/javascript\"> \t\t\tif ( getCookie( \"ff_subbed\" ) ) { \t\t\t\tdocument.getElementById(\"stnvideo\").remove() \t\t\t} \t\t<\/script> <\/p>\n<p>A health hazard with a &ldquo;Class I&rdquo; per the FDA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/medical-devices\/postmarket-requirements-devices\/recalls-corrections-and-removals-devices#:~:text=considered%20for%20recall.-,Classification,to%20cause%20adverse%20health%20consequences.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The initial voluntary recall <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/safety\/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts\/handsome-brook-farms-issues-recall-kirkland-signature-organic-pasture-raised-24-count-eggs-because#recall-announcement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">notice<\/a> from the FDA, dated Nov. 27, said that Handsome Brook Farms pulled the products &ldquo;because these eggs have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cdc-advisers-to-discuss-covid-booster-shots-for-those-with-weakened-immune-systems\/\" title=\"CDC advisers to discuss COVID booster shots for those with weakened immune systems\">weakened immune systems<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The affected units were distributed in 25 Costco stores in the states of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee starting on Nov. 22.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The recall was initiated after the company determined that eggs not intended for retail distribution were instead packaged and distributed in retail packaging,&rdquo; the notice added.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Additional supply chain controls and retraining are being put in place to prevent recurrence.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The impacted eggs are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/largest-us-fresh-egg-producer-halts-production-plant-destroys-nearly-2-million-chickens-disease-hits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">packaged<\/a> in plastic cartons and labeled with the Kirkland Signature brand.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The recall only applies to units with the Julian code 327 and a Use By Date of Jan 5, 2025, which can be found printed on the side of the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">plastic egg carton<\/a>,&rdquo;
