Instead, Biden has ceded the limelight to Trump as the president-elect is greeted with more optimism and open-mindedness than 2016 amid a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/section\/policy\/finance-and-economy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">stock market<\/a> surge, being named <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/time-magazine\/\">Time&rsquo;<\/a><\/em>s Person of the Year, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/opinion-bidens-catastrophic-withdrawal-is-empowering-another-enemy-china\/\" title=\"OPINION: Biden\u2019s Catastrophic Withdrawal Is Empowering Another Enemy \u2013 China\">high-level meetings<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/section\/policy\/foreign-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">foreign dignitaries<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For Democrats, such as Democratic strategist Jim Manley, a long-term aide to the late Senate Majority Leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/harry-reid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Harry Reid<\/a>, Trump ignoring another political norm, this time that there should only be one president at a time, should not come as a surprise.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The real president has largely been&nbsp;largely MIA for months, providing&nbsp;little to no leadership, while Trump is conducting foreign policy from his club of misfits and grifters down in Florida,&rdquo; Manley told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. &ldquo;[Biden] and his team allowed Trump to walk all over them, and as of right now, they&nbsp;are&nbsp;staggering into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/inauguration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">inauguration<\/a> in January with little to no juice.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Away from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/washington-dc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Washington, D.C.<\/a>, and outside of the Beltway, Iowa Democratic official Charles Comfort, an at-large member of&nbsp;the Oskaloosa&nbsp;City Council&nbsp;and vice president of its school board, conceded he had &ldquo;honestly more or less forgotten&rdquo; about Biden.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Which is sad because he does have quite the legacy, but I would say now is just fading into the background with a whimper,&rdquo; Comfort told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. &ldquo;Hopefully Democrats get their crap together for 2026 and realize that America is so fed up with their current policies, positions, that they put a man with no interest other than to build his own wealth in charge of the nation.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Republican strategist Douglas Heye, a former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republican-national-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Republican National Committee<\/a> communications director, agreed that Biden has &ldquo;essentially been absent from the world stage for a while&nbsp;now.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We may occasionally&nbsp;see him, but actually hearing from him has become a rare event,&rdquo; Heye told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. &ldquo;Trump has no presidential powers yet, but Biden has left a vacuum, and if there&rsquo;s anyone who knows how to fill a vacuum, it&rsquo;s Donald Trump.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Another Republican strategist Duf Sundheim, a Trump critic, concurred that &ldquo;power abhors a vacuum&rdquo; and &ldquo;an incredibly feeble administration coupled with a very aggressive Trump&rdquo; &ldquo;has led to one of the most assertive power plays by a president-elect in U.S. history.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Many believe Trump will be more effective this time around,&rdquo; Sundheim told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. &ldquo;They feel he did not expect to win in 2016, and now he appears much more organized.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>To that end, Trump has named all of his presumptive nominees for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/cabinet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Cabinet<\/a>-level positions in his second administration, except for the chair of his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/section\/news\/white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">White House<\/a> Council of Economic Advisers. He has also sat down with a long list of CEOs, from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/amazon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Amazon<\/a>&lsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jeff-bezos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Jeff Bezos<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/apple\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Apple<\/a>&lsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tim-cook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Tim Cook,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/google\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Alphabet<\/a>&lsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/sundar-pichai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Sundar Pichai<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/meta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Meta<\/a>&lsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mark-zuckerberg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Mark Zuckerberg<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tiktok\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">TikTok<\/a>&lsquo;s Shou Chew, and world leaders, from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/france\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">French<\/a> President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/emmanuel-macron\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Emmanuel Macron<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/united-kingdom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">British<\/a> Prince William during a trip to Paris for the reopening of Notre-Dame to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/canada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Canadian<\/a> Prime Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/justin-trudeau\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Justin Trudeau<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mar-a-lago\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Mar-a-Lago<\/a> in Florida after promising to impose 25% tariffs on Canada if it does not do more to stop the export of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/fentanyl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">fentanyl<\/a> into the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>In sum, a third Republican strategist, Cesar Conda, Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/marco-rubio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Marco Rubio<\/a>&lsquo;s (R-FL) former chief of staff, described Trump as having the &ldquo;most impactful post-election and pre-presidency period in American history.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;He has forced other countries to make changes to their policies, such as Canada, which now pledges to beef up their border or face massive tariffs,&rdquo; Conda told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. &ldquo;He has negotiated investments in our economy by foreign companies such as Japan&rsquo;s SoftBank, which pledged $100 billion in U.S. job creation.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Although a post-election stock surge has been somewhat mitigated by this week&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/federal-reserve\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Federal Reserve<\/a> report concerning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/interest-rates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">interest rates<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/inflation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">inflation<\/a>, polling suggests the public is more positive about the prospect of Trump&rsquo;s second administration. For example, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marquette.edu\/news-center\/2024\/marquette-law-poll-national-survey-finds-trump-approval-at-recent-high-biden-approval-all-time-low.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marquette Law School Poll<\/a> published this week found 53% of respondents approved of Trump&rsquo;s first term, an increase from 50% last month. <\/p>\n<p>But that goodwill toward Trump may not last long, with this week&rsquo;s drama over short-term funding for the federal government to avoid a partial holiday shutdown on Saturday serving as a reminder of the president-elect&rsquo;s first term after he and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tesla\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Tesla<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/spacex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">SpaceX<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/x-twitter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">X<\/a> CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/elon-musk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Elon Musk <\/a>opposed a bipartisan deal negotiated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/speaker-of-the-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">House Speaker<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mike-johnson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Mike Johnson<\/a> (R-LA). Trump and Vice President-elect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jd-vance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">J.D. Vance<\/a> called on Johnson to address the debt ceiling in the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>White House press secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/karine-jean-pierre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Karine Jean-Pierre<\/a>, for instance, has criticized Trump, Musk, and Johnson for creating the funding &ldquo;mess&rdquo; &ldquo;to pave the way [to add] $5 trillion to our national debt.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;That&rsquo;s what this decision does,&rdquo; she told reporters during her briefing on Friday. &ldquo;You&rsquo;re talking about&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/taxes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tax cuts<\/a>&nbsp;for billionaires, slashing&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/social-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Social Security<\/a>, slashing&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/medicare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Medicare<\/a>, slashing [early childhood education and health program] Head Start. Congressional Republicans did what they did because of what the president-elect said and what Elon Musk said.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, Jean-Pierre was repeatedly questioned about Biden&rsquo;s lack of leadership during the funding negotiations, aside from telephone discussions with House Minority Leader&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/hakeem-jeffries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hakeem Jeffries<\/a>&nbsp;(D-NY) and Senate Majority Leader&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/chuck-schumer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chuck Schumer<\/a>&nbsp;(D-NY).<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;All Americans need to know that Republicans are getting in the way here, and they are the ones who have created this mess,&rdquo; Jean-Pierre said. &ldquo;This is not the first time we&rsquo;ve been here, and the president has had this approach before. He understands how&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/congress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Congress<\/a>&nbsp;works. He&rsquo;s been around for some time. He understands what strategy works here to get this done.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The president is the president of the United States, and he is leading,&rdquo; she added. &ldquo;You&rsquo;re hearing what I&rsquo;m saying, right? I speak for the president of the United States. &hellip; I&rsquo;m speaking directly for him.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">last month&rsquo;s election<\/a>, Biden has traveled to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/south-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">South America <\/a>for his last <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/g20\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">G20<\/a> and APEC summits and the first presidential tour of the Amazon, in addition to this month&rsquo;s trip to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/angola\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Angola<\/a> and next month&rsquo;s counterpart to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/italy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Italy<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/vatican\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Vatican<\/a>. His administration, too, negotiated a ceasefire deal between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Israel<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/lebanon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Lebanon<\/a> in November. Domestically, Biden has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/pardons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">pardoned<\/a> his son <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/hunter-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Hunter<\/a>, pardoned or commuted the sentences of another 1,500 people in the largest act of clemency in a single day, and forgiven another $4.28 billion in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">federal student loan debt<\/a> for 55,000 public employees for $180 billion for 4.9 million borrowers since 2021.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But for Comfort, the Iowa Democrat, Democrats&rsquo; road back to relevance is hindered by the reality that, whether he likes it or not, &ldquo;a majority of Americans voted for Trump and MAGA.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;If and when their policies fail, then hopefully the Democrats have a cohesive plan to give the keys back to mommy and daddy, put misbehaving children in timeout, and then fix America,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;But unfortunately, I would consider the current state of the Democratic Party to a home where mom and dad are divorcing.
