The Mail cites The Committee for a Responsible Budget in their article, and that group states this would make Social Security insolvent six months earlier than current projections by giving increased benefits to 3 million people who paid into their state or local pensions that did not pay Social Security.

The CRFB also states, “As a result, we estimate a typical dual-income couple retiring in 2033 would see their benefits cut by an additional $25,000 over their lifetime.”

The think tank says if Social Security runs out of money under this bill, as much as $400,000 in benefits would be lost for the average couple. According to a report from the U.K. Daily Mail, Senate Democrats are attempting to advance a Social Security reform bill that they hope President Joe Biden will sign before Trump assumes office. The proposed Social Security Fairness Act seeks to eliminate provisions that lower benefits for public sector workers such as police officers, firefighters, teachers, and postal employees. The article references The Committee for a Responsible Budget (CRFB), which warns that this could lead to Social Security becoming insolvent six months sooner than currently expected by increasing benefits for 3 million individuals who contributed to state or local pensions without paying into Social Security. CRFB estimates that a typical dual-income couple retiring in 2033 could face an additional $25,000 reduction in lifetime benefits if this bill passes, potentially resulting in up to $400,000 lost in total benefits for average couples if the program runs out of funds due to this legislation. They also project the bill’s cost over the next decade at $190 billion according to the Congressional Budget Office.

After passing in the House of Representatives, Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer is advocating for a vote on this measure while Republican Senator Rand Paul proposes an amendment gradually raising retirement age to 70. Paul expressed concerns about how it would accelerate Social Security’s bankruptcy timeline and emphasized that expanding its mandate should come with funding solutions.

Schumer framed his efforts on social media as ensuring Americans receive their deserved benefits without being denied due to public service careers. However, despite appearing as an expansion of Social Security, critics argue it represents short-term gains at significant long-term costs.

Democrats have consistently claimed Trump is targeting Social Security; Vice President Kamala Harris recently reiterated these accusations just before election day. Similarly, Biden has stated his commitment to strengthening Medicare and protecting Social Security from Republican cuts.

In contrast with Trump’s earlier statements about not touching these programs while addressing government spending concerns under Project 2025—an initiative Democrats claim threatens both Medicare and Social Security—the current Democratic proposal may hasten insolvency rather than provide genuine assistance.

Ultimately, it’s uncertain whether Democrats genuinely believe their approach is beneficial or if they are setting up future challenges for Trump’s administration; however, there might be simpler explanations behind their actions based on Hanlon’s Razor principle suggesting we shouldn’t assume malice when incompetence can explain behavior adequately

[33651
3620,3685,4762,33104,3634
post-2382419","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-western-journal","tag-biden","tag-democrats","tag-legislation","tag-social-security","tag-trump
["GET
