After setting the highest national average price in the country&rsquo;s history in 2022, costs began to fall. In 2023, gas prices rose again and peaked in April 2024 before steadily dropping in May.<\/p>\n<p>Gas prices have been a controversial political topic for most of the time President Joe Biden has been in office. Years later, near the end of his term, that promise has finally come to fruition. Nevertheless, despite this year&rsquo;s substantial decrease in gas prices, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gas-prices-decrease-slightly-heading-into-the-weekend-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Gas prices decrease slightly heading into the weekend - Washington Examiner\">gas costs remain higher<\/a> now than when President-elect<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Donald Trump<\/a> was in office between January 2017 and January 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, gas prices continue to fluctuate throughout the country, with average prices in some states near $2.50 per gallon and over $4.50 in others.<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/hawaii\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Hawaii<\/a> has the highest average price for a gallon of gas, at $4.539.<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/oklahoma\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Oklahoma<\/a> has the cheapest gas prices in the country, at $2.581 per gallon.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gas prices for states in the Delmarva region are lower than the national average &ndash; all except the average cost for a gallon of gas in Washington, D.C. In <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/delaware\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Delaware<\/a>, the cost for a gallon of gas is the cheapest in the area and the least expensive of all states on the East Coast, with a price of $2.754. In <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/maryland\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Maryland<\/a>, the average price for a gallon of regular gas is $2.905, slightly more expensive than the First State but still less than the national average.
