He noted its <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">provisions extending drone monitoring authorities<\/a> to state and local police.<\/p>\n<p>But Paul, a libertarian who opposes the government&rsquo;s surveillance authorities, claimed the legislation amounted to a power grab.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is not about security. Congress has increasingly become <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3263493\/drone-sightings-house-classified-briefing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"concerned\">concerned<\/a> by the safety risks posed by the proliferation of drones commercially.<\/p>\n<p>But the bill picked up new traction following eyewitness reports of large drones flying over the night skies, with Schumer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.democrats.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/leader-schumer-demands-answers-on-mystery-drones-across-new-york-new-jersey-and-the-northeast-urges-immediate-deployment-of-state-of-the-art-drone-technology-to-get-to-the-bottom-of-mystery-will-call-for-passage-of-legislation-that-gives-local-leaders-more-tools-asap\">announcing<\/a> he would become a co-sponsor Sunday in a letter urging the Department of Homeland Security to deploy more drone-detection equipment.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration maintains the drones do not pose a threat but has been sparing details on their origins.<\/p>\n<p>Schumer argued the lack of answers is proof that local help is needed. At the same time, state officials including Gov.
