Bill Lee (R-TN) signed a bill into law that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitol.tn.gov\/Bills\/113\/Amend\/SA0514.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">allows public officials to decline to &ldquo;solemnize&rdquo; weddings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pizzeria Cortile&rsquo;s decision not to cater a wedding comes after Syracuse City Court Judge Felicia Pitts-Davis in New York was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3250831\/ny-judge-who-refused-to-officiate-lesbian-wedding-ceremony-pressured-to-resign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">faced with calls to resign after she chose not to officiate a wedding between two women<\/a>. Pitts-Davis informed Judge Mary Anne Doherty that she did not want to do the second one due to her religious beliefs.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/kim-davis-marriage-licenses-rowan-county-b99cdf7b93a1e144fdff2c3b24d96c2c\">Kim Davis<\/a>, a clerk in Rowan County, Kentucky, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ny-judge-who-refused-to-officiate-lesbian-wedding-ceremony-pressured-to-resign-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"NY judge who refused to officiate lesbian wedding ceremony pressured to resign - Washington Examiner\">cited religious beliefs<\/a> for denying marriage licenses to LGBT couples. She served five days in jail and was ordered to pay $260,000 in attorney fees earlier this year.
