Just make sure it&rsquo;s safe.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>To most Americans, that would sound like an order from a commander in chief to his subordinate, but Miller told Nancy Pelosi&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/jan-6-committee-another-democrat-cover-attempt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rigged Jan. 6 Committee<\/a> that he chose to consider it &ldquo;banter,&rdquo; the report noted on page 69.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, he told the IG interviewers, according to page 68 of the report: &ldquo;There was absolutely &mdash; there is absolutely no way I was putting U.S. Military forces at the Capitol.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Miller told the Jan. 6 committee that he was influenced by a commentary piece published by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/10-former-defense-secretaries-military-peaceful-transfer-of-power\/2021\/01\/03\/2a23d52e-4c4d-11eb-a9f4-0e668b9772ba_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Washington Post<\/a> on Jan. 3, 2021, signed by all 10 living former defense secretaries, calling on Miller by name to &ldquo;refrain from any political actions that undermine the results of the election or hinder the success of the new team.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>That piece, though, was &ldquo;orchestrated&rdquo; by Cheney, according to the report. Cheney&rsquo;s father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, who also served as a defense secretary, was a co-author of the piece.<\/p>\n<p>(Liz Cheney&rsquo;s role in organizing the op-ed was first revealed in a May 2021 interview the liberal magazine the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/news\/letter-from-bidens-washington\/forced-to-choose-between-trumps-big-lie-and-liz-cheney-the-house-gop-chooses-the-lie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Yorker<\/a> conducted with Eric Edelman, a Cheney family friend and former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-president-trump-to-pardon-gen-michael-flynn-per-report\/\" title=\"BREAKING: President Trump to Pardon Gen. Michael Flynn, Per Report\">national security adviser<\/a> to Dick Cheney. Not even the left-wing &ldquo;fact-checking&rdquo; site <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snopes.com\/fact-check\/liz-cheney-defense-op-ed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Snopes<\/a> has disputed it.)<\/p>\n<p>The report released Tuesday also showed Miller feared being called a &ldquo;Trump crony&rdquo; and was sensitive to criticism on social media.<\/p>\n<p>That apparently mattered more to him than carrying out the orders of the president, the report stated.<\/p>\n<p>It included a quote Miller gave to the inspector general investigators:<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Then you had this constant drumbeat of, remember when I came in the story was that I was a stuffed suit that I was a Trump crony that was going to use the United States Military to conduct a military coup to overthrow the Government, the elected Government of the United States. So that is what was out there in the Twitter sphere.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>(The fact that the United States military was led, however briefly, by a man afraid of the &ldquo;Twitter sphere&rdquo; is a sobering thought. Seriously.
