For one of the characters, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">dialogue referencing transgender identity<\/a> has been removed. That character, however, remains in the show.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline,&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/disney-pulls-transgender-storyline-win-or-lose-1236088172\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">a Disney spokesperson told<\/a> the <em>Hollywood Reporter<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A story about love, rivalry, and the challenges we all face in our struggle to win at life, &ldquo;Win or Lose&rdquo; streams on Disney+ in February 2025. (Credit: Disney\/Pixar)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/pixar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Pixar<\/a>, the studio releasing the series, opted to remove the dialogue several months ago, according to a source close to the project.<\/p>\n<p>Pixar and Disney steering away from an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/lgbt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">LGBT<\/a> storyline in <em>Win or Lose<\/em> comes after some of its theatrical films featuring such storylines underperformed financially. <em>Lightyear<\/em>, a <em>Toy Story<\/em> spinoff focusing on the iconic space ranger, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/586337\/to-infinity-and-into-the-ground-woke-lightyear-continues-to-bomb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">flopped at the box office<\/a> in 2022. The film generated discussion online for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/799567\/same-sex-kiss-to-appear-in-pixars-lightyear-after-gay-and-trans-employees-protest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">featuring Pixar&rsquo;s first same-sex kiss<\/a> in a feature film. It ended up with a global tally of $226 million, a far cry from how <em>Toy Story 3<\/em> and <em>Toy Story 4<\/em> grossed over $1 billion each.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2070317\/disneys-pixar-lays-off-75-of-its-employees-including-two-studio-veterans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Pixar laid off 75 of its employees<\/a>, marking the first time in 10 years the studio cut jobs. This was followed up a year later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3012096\/pixar-to-lay-off-175-employees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">by laying off 175 employees in 2024<\/a>, around 14% of the studio&rsquo;s workforce.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In September, it was reported by <em>IGN<\/em> that efforts were made in the production of <em>Inside Out 2<\/em>, released by Disney and Pixar in June, to make the main character, Riley, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/inside-out-2-was-the-hit-pixar-needed-but-the-laid-off-employees-who-crunched-on-it-are-still-hurting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">appear &ldquo;less gay&rdquo; when with another character in the film<\/a>.
