Most recently, he suggested the president-elect is a &ldquo;great patriot,&rdquo; despite previously <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NYCMayor\/status\/1278352611444436992\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">accusing<\/a> him of being a racist, among other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2023\/04\/13\/donald-trump-eric-adams-mayor-crime\/11655604002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">criticisms<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Adams&rsquo;s comment came after Trump said he would &ldquo;certainly&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3262180\/trump-confirms-he-would-look-at-pardoning-eric-adams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">consider<\/a> pardoning the man who once called himself the &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/12\/12\/politics\/eric-adams-trump\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Biden of Brooklyn<\/a>&rdquo; on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the 2024 campaign, Adams refrained from launching major criticisms of Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Trump and Adams, a former Republican, have apparent common ground on the matter of illegal immigration, as the New York City mayor has suggested his indictments are a result of political persecution due to his <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">anti-illegal immigration stance<\/a>. This resonates with Trump and his supporters as many feel he, too, is the victim of the political weaponization of the justice system.<\/p>\n<p>Unless pardoned beforehand, Adams&rsquo;s trial is set for April 2025.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Democratic mayor has been charged with accepting more than $90,000 worth of perks from Turkish officials in exchange for political favors. He has also been charged with two counts of solicitation of a campaign contribution from a foreign national, one count of wire fraud, and another count of wire fraud conspiracy.<\/p>\n<p>Despite facing calls to resign following his indictment, Adams plans to pursue reelection. When asked if he would consider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/state\/3252232\/eric-adams-hints-leave-democratic-party-join-republicans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">switching<\/a> to the Republican Party earlier this month, Adams did not reject the notion.
