Martinez is not about to be pushed around by the progressive aims of three county-level board members.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Sheriff respects Chairwoman Vargas and the members of the Board of Supervisors; however, she has been clear on her position on this matter,&rdquo; the SDCSO wrote in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdsheriff.gov\/Home\/Components\/News\/News\/3102\/16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a post<\/a> on the county board&rsquo;s vote.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As stated in the Sheriff&rsquo;s statement, she will continue to follow state law, and there is no loophole in state statute as referenced in the Chairwoman&rsquo;s board letter,&rdquo; the post continued.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Current state law strikes the right balance between limiting local law enforcement&rsquo;s cooperation with immigration authorities, ensuring public safety, and building community trust.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The SDCSO confirmed that state law allows cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.
