The statue&#8217;s upper half was severed, and its <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">accompanying panel featuring<\/a> the Satanic Temple\u2019s tenets was also shattered. The\u200b display was organized by Democratic Rep. Ellen Read in response to \u2062what she perceived as the exclusionary nature of the traditional Nativity scene\u2063 typically displayed during the holiday season. \u2062Mayor Byron Champlin opposed the statue&#8217;s presence, viewing it as a political statement rather than a religious one, and expressed that he would have preferred to deny the permit for the display. Nobody would have been upset,&rdquo; Read said. &ldquo;Two months later its the most offensive thing imaginable &hellip; they just have an emotional reaction and their only response is destroy.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Read contacted the temple about the display months prior to the incident.<\/p>\n<p>The State House square usually depicts a Nativity scene during the Christmas season, something Read apparently saw as exclusionary.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;One of our most sacred things as a country is our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/judge-backs-principal-punished-first-grader-life-matters-drawing-totally-dismisses-childs-first-amendment-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">First Amendment<\/a> and the idea that we do not have establishment of religion,&rdquo; Read said. &ldquo;On public grounds, if you&rsquo;re representing one religion, you have to represent all.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>But to Mayor Byron Champlin, the statue had nothing to do with religion.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;By definition this is not a religion,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;This is a very calculated political effort and I don&rsquo;t think that it should be shrouded in the illusion that it&rsquo;s some story of religious statement.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Although Champlin didn&rsquo;t approve of the damage, he never wanted the statue up in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;My preference was to deny the permit and accept the risk of the threatened lawsuit,&rdquo; Champlin said at a Concord City Council meeting. &ldquo;I oppose the permit because I believe the request was made not in the interest of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/holiday-display-outside-state-capitol-included-a-satanic-statue-it-didnt-last-long\/\" title=\"Holiday Display Outside State Capitol Included a Satanic Statue - It Didn&#039;t Last Long\">promoting religious equity<\/a> but in order to drive an anti-religious agenda.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The reluctant City of Concord only approved the statue permit under fear of a lawsuit, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nhjournal.com\/demonic-christmas-display-at-state-house-destroyed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Hampshire Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Under the First Amendment and to avoid litigation, the City needed to choose whether to ban all holiday displays installed by other groups, or otherwise, to allow it,&rdquo; the City of Concord said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Champlin called out the Satanic Temple for what he described as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-votes-on-major-security-upgrade-will-fine-members-5k-for-bypassing-metal-detectors\/\" title=\"House Votes On Major Security Upgrade, Will Fine Members K For Bypassing Metal Detectors\">political stunt<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We have room in our society for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/atheists-seething-huge-international-soccer-tournament-kicks-off-sermonette-prayer-jesus-name\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">atheists<\/a> and for secularists and for Christians and for flat earthers.
