Judges and two separate juries have found him liable for rape and for defaming the victim of that rape,&rdquo; Stephanopoulos said to Mace, who has frequently cited her own history as a rape victim.<\/p>\n<p>Stephanopoulos was referring to Trump&rsquo;s legal battle against E. Trump made during an interview by George Stephanopoulos with Rep. Nancy Mace on ABC&rsquo;s This Week on March 10, 2024,&rdquo; the statement reads.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Stephanopoulos was adamant he would not back down from his comments, even going so far as to tell late-night host Stephen Colbert he would not be &ldquo;cowed out of doing my job because of a threat.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Trump sued me because I used the word &lsquo;rape,&rsquo; even though a judge said that&rsquo;s in fact what did happen,&rdquo; Stephanopoulos said in May. &ldquo;We filed a motion to dismiss.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Trump was not found liable for rape, but federal Judge Lewis Kaplan wrote in a ruling that although Carroll failed to prove those accusations, it does not mean that she failed to prove that Mr. Trump &lsquo;raped&rsquo; her, as many people commonly understand the word &lsquo;rape.&rsquo;&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The settlement comes after U.S. Magistrate Judge Lisette M. Reid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3260785\/donald-trump-sit-deposition-lawsuit-against-abc-news-anchor-george-stephanopoulos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">ordered earlier this month<\/a> that both Trump and Stephanopoulos would need to attend an in-person deposition next week to file a motion for summary judgment to avoid a trial.
