He was charged with &ldquo;failure to register an aircraft, not providing transportation, and violation of national defense airspace,&rdquo; according to a release from the U.S. Attorney&rsquo;s Office, Central District of California.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Zhou was arrested at San Francisco International Airport on Monday before boarding a flight to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">China<\/a>, the Justice Department said. He appeared at a United States District Court in San Francisco on Tuesday and is being held in federal custody &ldquo;pending prosecutors&rsquo; appeal of a federal magistrate judge&rsquo;s decision to release him.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This defendant allegedly flew a drone over a military base and took photos of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-reaffirm-their-trust-in-trump-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Republicans reaffirm their trust in Trump - Washington Examiner\">base&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s layout, which is against the law,&rdquo; <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-cdca\/pr\/brentwood-man-arrested-allegedly-flying-drone-over-and-photographing-vandenberg-space\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> United States Attorney Martin Estrada. &ldquo;The security of our nation is of paramount importance, and my office will continue to promote the safety of our nation&rsquo;s military personnel and facilities.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Court documents revealed that a drone operated by Zhou initiated the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/drones-carrying-explosives-are-latest-threat-to-us-border-security-sen-chuck-grassley\/\" title=\"Sen. Chuck Grassley warns of drones as new threat to US border security.\">drone detection system<\/a> at Vandenberg Space Force Base on Nov. 30. The device hovered over the base for approximately one hour, reaching a peak altitude nearly one mile above ground level. It was determined that the drone&rsquo;s operator deployed it from a park in close proximity to the base. Vandenberg security officials confronted Zhou at the park and noticed him hiding a drone in his outerwear.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department announced that officials obtained a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cops-blasted-for-letting-gabby-petitos-boyfriend-disappear-as-body-possibly-found-in-wyoming\/\" title=\"Cops Blasted For Letting Gabby Petito\u2019s Boyfriend Disappear As Body Possibly Found In Wyoming\">federal search warrant<\/a> for the drone and <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">discovered aerial viewpoint pictures<\/a> of the base on the device.
