Though the Washington Post originally <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/trump-thanks-wapo-for-correcting-latest-media-travesty-blasts-legacy-media-for-acting-like-political-entities\"><span>claimed<\/span><\/a><span> that Trump pressured Watson to \u201cfind the fraud\u201d in Georgia\u2019s ballot count during the 2020 election, the outlet corrected its story following the audio\u2019s release.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The correction came months after Democrats in Congress used the quotes as evidence against President Trump during his most recent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/15\/democrats-madeleine-dean-used-fake-find-fraud-quote-donald-trump-impeachment-trial\/\"><span>impeachment<\/span><\/a><span> trial.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DailyCaller\/status\/1371547200950566921?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1371547200950566921%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fdailycaller.com%2F2021%2F03%2F15%2Fdemocrats-madeleine-dean-used-fake-find-fraud-quote-donald-trump-impeachment-trial%2F\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> during the proceedings, \u201cTrump called the chief investigator for the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, who was conducting an audit \u2014 an audit of the signature matching procedures for absentee ballots. Trump urged him, \u2018find the fraud,\u2019 and claimed the official would be \u2018a national hero\u2019 if he did.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>President Trump was not thrilled about the false reporting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe Washington Post just issued a correction as to the contents of the incorrectly reported phone call I had with respect to voter fraud in the Great State of Georgia,\u201d noted the 45th President in a statement about the correction. \u201cWhile I appreciate the Washington Post\u2019s correction, which immediately makes the Georgia Witch Hunt a non-story, the original story was a Hoax, right from the very beginning.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cYou will notice that establishment media errors, omissions, mistakes, and outright lies always slant one way \u2014 against me and against Republicans,\u201d Trump continued. \u201cMeanwhile, stories that hurt Democrats or undermine their narratives are buried, ignored, or delayed until they can do the least harm \u2014 for example, after an election is over.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Unfortunately, the Washington Post story is far from an anomaly. <\/span><span>Here are four more examples of times legacy media outlets posted fabricated stories about Trump, only to quietly retract them later.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>CNN \u2014 Scaramucci and Russia<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>CNN <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/blogs\/on-media\/2017\/06\/26\/cnn-resign-russia-scaramucci-239975\"><span>retracted<\/span><\/a><span> a story alleging that the Senate Intelligence Committee was investigating a Russian financier linked to Trump transition team member Anthony Scaramucci.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the report, Scaramucci \u2014 who worked as the White House Director of Communications for just eleven days in the summer of 2017 \u2014 was under federal scrutiny for meeting with the head of a $10 billion Russian fund before the 2016 election. CNN based the entire story upon one anonymous source who claimed that two Senate Democrats were interested in whether Scaramucci promised the lifting of Russian sanctions during the meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Three CNN journalists \u2014 reporter Thomas Frank, assistant managing editor Eric Lichtblau, and executive editor Lex Haris \u2014 resigned in the aftermath of the retraction. Frank and Lichtblau are Pulitzer Prize recipients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Other legacy media outlets quickly reframed the incident as an attack by President Trump against the media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cPresident Trump resumed beating his \u2018fake news!\u2019 drum Tuesday, going off on CNN after the network retracted a story about alleged ties between Trump\u2019s allies and Russia,\u201d read the first sentence of a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/the-fix\/wp\/2017\/06\/27\/trump-renews-attack-on-fake-news-cnn-after-retraction\/\"><span>Washington Post<\/span><\/a><span> article entitled \u201cTrump renews attack on \u2018Fake News CNN\u2019 after retraction.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cCNN was forced to apologize after retracting a story on its website that a Russian bank linked to a close ally of President Trump was under Senate investigation\u2026 But the mea culpa did not stop Mr. Trump and his supporters from seizing on the mistake, condemning CNN and claiming it as evidence that other major news organizations were conspiring against the administration,\u201d reported <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/06\/27\/business\/media\/cnn-retracted-story-on-trump.html\"><span>The New York Times<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe president could not resist another dig on Tuesday at the network,\u201d reported <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-40414886\"><span>BBC<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cMr Trump has often accused the organisation of \u2018fake news\u2019 and refused to answer questions put to him by one of its journalists.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The New York Times \u2014 Intelligence Community<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>The New York Times <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/06\/25\/us\/politics\/trumps-deflections-and-denials-on-russia-frustrate-even-his-allies.html\"><span>corrected<\/span><\/a><span> a story claiming that all seventeen intelligence agencies affirmed that Russia orchestrated hacking attacks against the United States. In reality, thirteen of the agencies reached no such conclusion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cA White House Memo article on Monday about President Trump\u2019s deflections and denials about Russia referred incorrectly to the source of an intelligence assessment that said Russia orchestrated hacking attacks during last year\u2019s presidential election,\u201d read the publication\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/06\/29\/pageoneplus\/corrections-june-29-2017.html\"><span>correction<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cThe assessment was made by four intelligence agencies \u2014 the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Security Agency. The assessment was not approved by all 17 organizations in the American intelligence community.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Following the retraction, more journalists angled their stories around a perceived war between President Trump and the media, rather than emphasizing low journalistic standards among many legacy outlets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe relationship between Trump and the news media regularly hits new lows, with insults flying between the two camps and reporters warning that the president is inciting violence against journalists,\u201d wrote Jonathan Easley for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/media\/340564-media-errors-fuel-trump-attacks\"><span>The Hill<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cBut Trump\u2019s allies on the right believe the president\u2019s claims that the mainstream media is \u2018fake news\u2019 have been bolstered by recent missteps. They point to recent admissions from top news outlets \u2014 including CNN, The New York Times and The Associated Press \u2014 that bombshell stories were either overcooked or included incorrect details.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Buzzfeed \u2014 Michael Cohen<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Citing the testimony of two anonymous federal officials, Buzzfeed News <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeednews.com\/article\/jasonleopold\/trump-russia-cohen-moscow-tower-mueller-investigation\"><span>reported<\/span><\/a><span> that \u201cPresident Donald Trump directed his longtime attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about negotiations to build a Trump Tower in Moscow.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Buzzfeed article prompted Robert Mueller \u2014 the Special Counsel for the Department of Justice who oversaw the Russian collusion investigation \u2014 to issue a rare public <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/mueller-team-disputes-buzzfeed-report-claiming-trump-told-cohen-to-lie\"><span>rebuke<\/span><\/a><span> of the story.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cBuzzFeed\u2019s description of specific statements to the Special Counsel\u2019s Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen\u2019s Congressional testimony are not accurate,\u201d said Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller\u2019s office.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Buzzfeed added an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeednews.com\/article\/bensmith\/how-we-characterized-michael-cohens-testimony\"><span>editor\u2019s note<\/span><\/a><span> to its original story insisting that their reporting was \u201cbased on detailed information from senior law enforcement sources.\u201d Though Buzzfeed Editor-in-Chief Ben Smith stated that the \u201creporting included documents \u2014 specifically, pages of notes that were taken during an interview of Cohen by the FBI,\u201d Buzzfeed did not release the documents or the names of the anonymous sources.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>MSNBC \u2014 Deutsche Bank<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>MSNBC anchor Lawrence O\u2019Donnell reported in 2019 that Russian moguls co-signed Deutsche Bank loans to President Trump \u2014 a story that MSNBC later <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2019\/08\/28\/trump-lawrence-odonnell-deutsche-bank-1476863\"><span>retracted<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>O\u2019Donnell backtracked only after Trump attorney Charles Harder told the network to \u201cimmediately and prominently retract, correct and apologize for the \u2026 false and defamatory statements.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cLast night on this show I discussed information that wasn\u2019t ready for reporting,\u201d O\u2018Donnell said on August 28. \u201cI did not go through the rigorous verification and standards process here at MSNBC before repeating what I heard from my source. Had it gone through that process I would not have been permitted to report it. I should not have said it on air or posted it on Twitter.
