Union leaders are urging Schumer\u200d to protect the NLRB from potential Trump appointees, who might prioritize individual\u200c worker rights over union powers.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the\u2062 union hierarchy&#8217;s apprehension, Donald Trump has garnered critically important support\u2062 from \u2063working-class Americans, including many union members, demonstrating\u200d that politicians can be pro-worker without aligning with union demands. It suggests that \u2064a \u2063pro-worker nominee for the NLRB could help realign the \u2064board&#8217;s priorities towards fair portrayal for individual workers.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Chuck Schumer recently&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenSchumer\/status\/1860355400039633209\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a>&nbsp;that one of his &ldquo;highest priorities&rdquo; is to confirm Joe Biden&rsquo;s nominees to the National Labor Relations Board before his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/australia-votes-for-leftism-center-right-party-loses-control-after-9-years-in-power\/\" title=\"Australia Votes For Leftism; Center-Right Party Loses Control After 9 Years In Power\">party loses control<\/a> of the Senate.&nbsp;He&rsquo;s slated to make good on that promise&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sbecouncil.org\/2024\/12\/10\/showing-up-for-small-business-calling-all-senators-to-vote-no-on-mcferran-for-nlrb-chair\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">on Wednesday<\/a>, as a cloture vote on an NLRB renomination is scheduled to take place soon.<\/p>\n<p>If Schumer secures another&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nlrb.gov\/about-nlrb\/who-we-are\/the-board\/members-of-the-nlrb-since-1935\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">five-year term<\/a>&nbsp;for NLRB Chair Lauren McFerran, Biden nominees will control the Labor Board until at least August 2026. Union elites are begging Schumer to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenation.com\/article\/politics\/senate-nlrb-vote-deadline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&ldquo;Trump-proof&rdquo;<\/a>&nbsp;the NLRB because they fear Trump&rsquo;s appointees might focus on protecting individual workers&rsquo; rights instead of giving union officials more power. Big Labor has perpetuated the lie that politicians are only &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lori-chavez-deremer-would-be-a-disaster-as-labor-secretary\/\" title=\"Lori Chavez-DeRemer Would Be A Disaster As Labor Secretary\">pro-worker&#038;rdquo<\/a>; if they comply with union demands.<\/p>\n<p>Donald Trump erased that lie, winning reelection with unprecedented support from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/trumps-return-power-fueled-by-hispanic-working-class-voter-support-2024-11-06\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">working-class Americans<\/a>, including union members, while being relentlessly attacked by union officials. Even Teamsters union boss Sean O&rsquo;Brien, who&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/10\/08\/us-news\/democrats-f-ked-us-teamsters-boss-says-after-members-backed-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">admitted<\/a>&nbsp;that nearly 2 out of 3 Teamsters workers support Trump,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/teamster.org\/2024\/09\/teamsters-no-endorsement-for-u-s-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">refused<\/a>&nbsp;to endorse him.<\/p>\n<p>O&rsquo;Brien has&nbsp;tried to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/teamstersob\/status\/1860118006820479289?s=46\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spin<\/a>&nbsp;himself as a Trump ally nonetheless, but&nbsp;all that betrays the&nbsp;truth.&nbsp;Like the other union bosses, the Teamsters hierarchy refused to support the former president because he didn&rsquo;t&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4887442-teamsters-union-endorsement-sean-obrien\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">promise them more power<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, Trump wouldn&rsquo;t commit to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/show\/teamsters-chief-on-why-union-wont-endorse-trump-or-harris-our-system-is-broken\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vetoing a national right-to-work law<\/a>. As Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/teamster.org\/2024\/09\/teamsters-no-endorsement-for-u-s-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explained<\/a>,&nbsp;&ldquo;It is a red line for the Teamsters and must be for any union when a candidate for elected office does not oppose [right-to-work].&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Of course, right-to-work laws are the true pro-worker legislation, as they simply ensure that union dues are&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrtw.org\/right-to-work-frequently-asked-questions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">voluntary<\/a>&nbsp;for all workers. Union bosses can rake in much more cash when they can take it directly out of workers&rsquo; paychecks without their permission, so they despise right-to-work.<\/p>\n<p>Trump didn&rsquo;t need to bow down to forced-dues demands from O&rsquo;Brien or any other union boss because he didn&rsquo;t need their help. He proved that winning politicians can simply be pro-worker without being mouthpieces for Big Labor or Big Business.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump can send a powerful pro-worker message by nominating someone to the NLRB who doesn&rsquo;t represent unions or corporations before the board, only workers. The NLRB is supposed to adjudicate disputes among companies, union officials, and workers, but workers are often lumped into one of the first two categories.<\/p>\n<p>When union lawyers prevail in an NLRB case, they want to claim &ldquo;workers won.&rdquo; But when actual rank-and-file workers file charges against union officials&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/theshoestring.org\/2024\/11\/02\/nlrb-dismisses-bid-to-decertify-hadley-trader-joes-union\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">or try to remove a union altogether<\/a>, activist NLRB board members refuse to acknowledge them as individuals, instead treating them as mindless drones who&rsquo;ve been tricked into doing their employer&rsquo;s bidding.<\/p>\n<p>Union partisans on the NLRB refuse to accept that workers often have good reasons to oppose a union, which leads to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrtw.org\/news\/red-rock-slot-decert-03212022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">perverse anti-worker rulings<\/a>&nbsp;in cases where workers themselves bring charges against a union.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the Biden board issued a radical decision that empowers union officials to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uschamber.com\/employment-law\/unions\/nlrb-cemex-decision-denies-workers-rights-to-make-fair-choice-union\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">impose themselves on workers<\/a>&nbsp;without allowing those workers to vote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-infrastructure-plan-a-boon-for-unions\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s Infrastructure Plan a Boon for Unions\">secret ballot election<\/a>. The same Biden-appointed board majority then&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrtw.org\/news\/epr-repeal-07302024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">changed the NLRB&rsquo;s rules<\/a>&nbsp;to block workers from obtaining a secret ballot vote after they are unionized without an election.<\/p>\n<p>Some corporations defend their employees, but too often they are complicit &mdash; whether willingly or as a result of union pressure tactics &mdash; in union officials&rsquo; schemes to impose themselves on workers, leaving workers to fend for themselves before the NLRB.<\/p>\n<p>In June, Meijer employee&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrtw.org\/news\/meijer-arnold-ulp-06112024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Joseph Arnold<\/a>&nbsp;filed NLRB charges after the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">grocery chain illegally threatened<\/a> to fire him for refusing to become a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers union.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrtw.org\/news\/ulp-kroger-ufcw-03202024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Roger Cornett<\/a>&nbsp;filed similar charges in March against grocery chain Kroger after a manager demanded he join the union and authorize contributions to the UFCW Political Action Committee, which backed more than&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/political-action-committees-pacs\/united-food-commercial-workers-union\/C00002766\/candidate-recipients\/2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">200<\/a>&nbsp;federal candidates in the 2024 cycle without supporting a single Republican.<\/p>\n<p>Although the Biden NLRB aggressively prosecutes employers at the behest of union lawyers, these worker-initiated cases against corporations in bed with union officials have been left to languish. In both cases, NLRB officials haven&rsquo;t even taken employees&rsquo; statements.<\/p>\n<p>Under Biden, the NLRB majority has been pro-forced unionism, not pro-worker, so they simply aren&rsquo;t interested in cases where employers are assisting union officials with extracting dues from workers.<\/p>\n<p>Workers need someone on the NLRB who is devoted to protecting their freedoms and interests, but the vast majority of labor lawyers work for either companies or union officials.
